Top Attractions in Kiev

Kiev, Ukraine,Ukraine

Kiev is not only the capital city of Ukraine, but an exciting and historic metropolis. Visitors can get the most from a trip to Kiev by taking guided tours.

The city's Cathedrals are not to be missed. Essential to the city's architecture and atmosphere, they reflect various periods in the history of Ukraine. A tour guide can provide invaluable information on historical and architectural elements.

St. Michael's Cathedral is perched on a bluff in the Upper Town area. The cathedral, which overlooks the Podil neighborhood, dazzles with its elaborate gold domes.

The exterior of St. Sofia Cathedral Ukraine was remodeled in the Ukrainian Baroque style in the 17th century. The interior shows its Middle Ages origins, with eleventh-century friezes and mosaics. St. Sofia was the first Ukraine landmark on the World Heritage List.

Andrew Descent is a long, winding brick path bridging the Upper Town and Podil neighborhoods. Dotted with historic landmarks like the Castle of Richard the Lionheart, Andrew Descent makes its way down to Podil's popular Kontraktova Square.

Independence Square is the main plaza in Kiev. Despite its World War II destruction, the rebuilt square with its fountain and monument combines history, beauty, and modern commerce.

Friendship Arch is another can't-miss attraction. The lovely titanium arch rises above granite statues celebrating the union of Ukraine and Russia. Obolon, Podil, and Troeschina are visible from its observation deck.

A guided tour including the Mother Motherland statue allows visitors to experience the awe of a 62-meter tall statue honoring thousands of war heroes and workers. The Motherland statue sits majestically atop the Museum of the Great Patriotic War in the Pechersk district.

What People Are Saying About Kiev

This car/ walking tour was excellent, varied, and fun!

No one else signed up for this tour the day that I took it. The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting and included a good mix of the old and the new, religious and secular, architecture and landscapes, views that were tiny and and large, and sites archeological and live! It was a bank holiday and her driving and parking through all the crowds was phenomenal! She knows the history and the people as a local resident and could input pixels of comments that enhanced all that we were seeing!

A horrific journey led by an AMAZING guide.

This is not a happy go lucky tour. These are the non-sugar coated facts of what the Ukraine faced during the second world war. You see artifacts from the time, letters, equipment, tactical maps. You also see the horror of the mass killings and the savagery of War. This is a stark message for those who fail to learn from their history, they are only doomed to repeat it. May we learn from museums like this one.

Comprehensive and informative overview of historic Kiev!

For first time traveller to Kiev, the birthplace of eastern Slavic civilization, recommended to take this well priced tour of the city. It details the balance between the religious and historical aspects with the modern changes this city has undergone in the last few decades. Very friendly and professional guide with all relevant and poignant knowledge at her fingertips. All oriented towards the visitors viewpoint and aimed to provide maximum exposure to Kiev at their own pace!. Well worth taking!!

Fascinating insight in Soviet past of Kiev

An absolutely fantastic tour. Anna, the tour guide combined an excellently structured tour with fascinating personal insights into life in Kiev as part of the Soviet Union. The story about Anna and her brother being given a banana to eat in public in the 1990's is particularly memorable. Both Anna and the tour itself are both highly recommended!
