5 Activities and Features of Keukenhof Garden

The small town of Lisse, south of Amsterdam and Haarlem, is home to the Keukenhof tulip garden, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors from the world over each year.

Castle Keukenhof

Built in 1642, the castle is by far the most prominent building in the village. Unlike the gardens, it's available to visit all year round. Definitely worth a stop!

Tulpomania Exhibition

The Juliana Pavilion houses this exhibition that tells of the rise of the tulip in the Netherlands. From the Golden Age to the present, discover its economic and cultural impact!

Bicycle Tour

Really, it doesn't get more Dutch than this... riding a bike through endless fields of tulips. It's the essential way to experience Keukenhof!

Pancake Restaurant

The Dutch word for pancakes is "pannenkoeken," a staple of local cuisine. Make it a quintessentially Dutch day and stop by for an afternoon snack at the restaurant!

Buy Tulips

If photos aren't enough, you can also buy colorful bulbs from the local shop. Make sure you check customs regulations of your destination or home country first, though.

What People Are Saying About Keukenhof

Convenient way to get to the tulip gardens

Enjoyed the gardens, especially the free 2:00 PM tour. Taking the buses worked well, although some confusion about where to get the 2nd bus - coming and going.

Keukenhof is a wonderful place to walk and have a good rest for several hours. After visiting the park you can also rent a bike and run through the village and amazing flower fields.

stunning bulb gardens. A must-see experience!

The bus tour out to the gardens was a convenient way of getting there and skipping the queue for tickets. The gardens were absolutely beautiful...very imaginative in layout, colour and design. If you can visit in April do so as they seemed to be at their best.

Breathtaking scenery and enjoyable time with family

Given this garden is open only for seven weeks of the year, I think we made it there at it peak and while the flowers were in full blossom. The place is quite tricky to navigate, but it's garden so there is no set route - you can roam where you like. Keep the map with you at all time though as you may need it to find you way back! Good access to snacks, ice creams and coffee in various spots - you'll need at least 3 - 4 hours to see the whole place. I had a great time with my family.

It was excellent. I strongly recommend it!

Just a tip for everyone interested. We went early in the morning and it was full but a short line (5-10 minutes of waiting) and we got there rather fast (it was 10:00-10:30 AM). However upon leaving (13:00-13:30 PM) the park was packed. So better wake up early and don't linger or you may have a crowded experience.
