Departing early in the morning from Rovaniemi, you will be picked up from your hotel and head 116km to the sea coast of Kemi. The journey takes about 1 hour and the sightseeing along the way is amazing. A Lappish lunch will be provided. Situated right on the Bothnian Bay, the majestic castle of Kemi rises up as in a fairy-tale world of the frosty Finnish winter. Each year in January, local professional designers are in charge of designing and reconstructing the unique and massive Snow Castle. It starts to melt only when the shiny sunlight starts to peek out through the clouds in the springtime. Along with the looming castle walls, which are over twelve feet high, the area also features a hotel, art gallery, and chapel, where some people even travel across the globe to hold an exquisite marriage ceremony. Each portion of the castle is lit with colorful lights that add splendor to the ethereal ice walls. Many artists come to lend their talents to the castle by creating ice sculptures throughout the waterside structure as well.
