Get picked up by your driver guide from your hotel in Kigali at 5:30 AM and depart for Akagera National Park located along the eastern border of Rwanda, hugging the border with Tanzania.  Arrive for a morning game drive, searching for the big five, rhinos, lions, buffalo, leopard, and elephant in the expansive Park. Typically hilly countryside gives way to the savannas of the Great Rift Valley. Dominated by lakes, swamps, and marshland, the area boasts a huge compliment of nature and wildlife that cannot be found elsewhere in the country.   The varied terrain shelters wildlife including zebras, giraffes, elephants, lions, and hundreds of bird species, such as the rare shoebill stork. In the southern part of the park, vast Lake Ihema is home to hippos and crocodiles. Arrive at the picnic site for your lunch then later go on your afternoon exploration with a game drive by visiting the giraffe valley. Depart the park in the late afternoon through the northern gate and travel back to Kigali arriving early in the evening.

After an exciting morning of wildlife spotting, enjoy a delicious lunch at the Akagera Game Lodge before our final game drive back out of the park. We'll return to Kigali later in the evening, concluding our adventure filled with unforgettable memories. Pick up from your hotel at 4:30 AM and drive through the dramatic, cultivated hills define Rwanda arriving at Akagera National Park 7:00AM. Enjoy an optional Boat ride at Lake Ihema as you drift along the forest fringed body of water on the midst of hippos resting and Nile crocodiles patrolling for breakfast. The lake is also rich in birdlife with over 450 different species. Spend the whole day game-driving in Akagera National Park. Akagera National Park has a diversity of wildlife including buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas and many others. After a long time being extinct in Akagera National Park, the black rhinos and lions have recently been restocked. Their sighting is always not guaranteed due to their small number and the hiding character of the black rhino. Itinerary and Packing List You will be picked up from your accommodation early in the morning, and then take on the journey driving to Kayonza district in the Eastern province of Rwanda. The 2.5 hours journey to Akagera national park will reward you with planned en-route stopovers along the route mesmerizing on the beautiful landscaping views of Rwanda’s beautiful nature and scenery. Feel free to ask your driver-guide questions about the wonderful scenery and even request for photographic stopovers along the way. When you arrive at the park, while the guide will be organizing the entrance permit, you will receive briefing about the safari and learn about the park history. Stretch your legs and get ready to embark on the game drive. We shall be expectant to see the big five safari game such as Lions, Rhinos, Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Antelopes, leopard, Baboons, among others. Akagera National park is a varied habitat for wildlife species in Rwanda and a birders haven with more than 500 bird species in the park. After the game drive which takes up to 6 hours depending on your schedule, you will have your picnic lunch and then exit the park through the northern gate to start the journey back to Kigali. Rwanda has only 1 Savannah National Park. This 1,122 sq. Km Mass of Land is the Largest and only one with Wetland adapted species in the Great Lakes Region. It is Home to Africa’s Big 5 Including The large African Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Buffaloes as well as the other smaller Species like Antelopes and Zebras. Akagera NP is also home to amazing aquatic Life like the Large Nile Crocodiles, Hippos as well as Aquatic Birds like African Fish Eagles and Pied King Fishers. For the Bird Lovers, the Park is home to more than 550 Bird Species making it a truly Birding Paradise. Your Guide will pick you up early in the morning from your Hotel in Kigali and by 5am proceed to drive to Akagera NP in Eastern Rwanda. The Drive takes about 2.5hrs and you will have a short coffee stopover at Imigongo Café before proceeding to the Park, Check in then start a 7 hour Long Drive along Dirt Roads through thick Acacia Vegetation, Swampy Patches, gentle Montane slopes and flat Savannah Grassland Plains where we usually have our Packed Lunch from. On a good Day, One could easily see all the Big 5 or a few but with all the scenic beauty and Wildlife Servings Akagera NP has to offer, it’s always truly an amazing spectacle. We will drive from the Southern Gates of the Park to the Northern Gate where we will exit the Park later in the evening then begin the 3 Hour Drive back to Kigali where your Guide will drop you off at the Airport or your Hotel marking the end of the Trip.

Early morning, you will be picked up by KGL Safaris driver guide at 4: 30am for your day trip to Akagera national park, The drive takes 2 h 30 min to reach to the park reception for tour formalities and briefing. After breakfast immediately begin for your game drive where you will be able to spot all mammals and an opportunity to spot a variety of wild animals such as elephants, buffalo, lions, giraffes, gazelle, impala, baboon, oribi, and Burch ell’s zebra, topis, bush back, leopard, and bushbuck. You will also see crocodiles and hippos, together with a large concentration of birdlife, with over 525 identified species and it is also known as to have African big five animals; Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and African buffalo. Akagera game viewing drive takes about 5-6 hours in the park via northern part and have a packed lunch at the picnic area, Exit the park in the late afternoon and drive back to Kigali.
