Experience the magnificent panorama of the Himalayan range up close on a mountain flight from the Kathmandu airport. This increasingly popular activity gives you the opportunity to view a number of the tallest snow-capped peaks in just 1 hour.
What to Expect
Mountain flights are becoming increasingly popular with visitors to Nepal. If you’re short of time, not inclined to go trekking, or would like an aerial view of the Himalayas, a 1-hour flight will let you see the snow-capped peaks in all their glory. Flights take off from the Kathmandu airport in the early morning on this exciting experience.
The comfortable, 14-seater plane departs from Kathmandu and flies alongside the Himalayan range to give you eye-level views of the mountain peaks. Cruising close to the awesome massifs of rock and ice, you’ll marvel at the awe-inspiring sights.
As the plane heads to the east, you’ll encounter Gosiankund, at a majestic height of 8,013 meters. Within a minute, Dorge Lakpa, at 6,966 meters, appears on the right. To the right of Dorge Lakpa is Phurbi Chyachu, which looms over the Kathmandu Valley.
As the plane glides along, you come ever closer to the magnificent peaks. See Choba Bhamare, the smallest yet at just 5,933 meters! Then you’ll see the spiritually important Gauri Shankar. Lord Shankar and his consort Gauri are said to protect this mountain, which stands at a height of 7,134 meters. The outline of Gauri-Shankar is sharp and conspicuous during the mountain flight.
The flight moves toward the land of the rising sun, the eastern Himalaya, and a succession of glorious mountains follow your view of Melungtse, a plateau like mountain, at a height of 7,023 meters. Chugimago, at 6,297 meters, is still waiting to be climbed.
