Explore some of Nepal’s most majestic and legendary landscapes on this extensive, active and exhilarating trek through the Mustang region, at the foot of the Himalayas. This 19-day tour will show you why adventurers keep returning to this amazing place.
What to Expect
Deep in the Annapurna Conservation Area, at the heart of the Himalayas, the picturesque region known as upper Mustang resembles the Tibetan plateau, home to yellow and gray rolling hills eroded by violent winds. This extensive and remarkable trek will let you discover some of Nepal’s most breathtaking and legendary regions, including the ancient Kingdom of Lo that shares a border with Tibet.

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu. Meet your guides at the airport, followed by transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day will be spent at your leisure. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2

After arranging the details of our departure the next day, we will take a day tour of Kathmandu, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and Bodhnath. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 3

Fly to Pokhara followed by a transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day includes a tour of Pokhara city and a one-hour boat ride on Phewa Lake. Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 4 Pokhara–Jomsom–Kagbeni (3 to 4 hours walking)

We will fly to Pokhara/Jomsom on an early morning flight. After some short preparations, the trek starts. After three and half hours of walking directly north of Jomsom we will reach the small and pretty village of Kagbeni.

The trail is barren with rocks and sand, and is mostly flat making it very easy and enjoyable. On the way, admire the picturesque Dhaulagiri and Tukuche mountains in the west, and Nilgiri and the entire Annapurna massif to the south and southwest.

Day 5 Kagbeni and trek to Cheley (5 to 6 hours walking)

The Restricted Area begins from this point. Today we will discover five villages in the local area: Chele, Gyakar, Chhuksang, Tangbe and Tetang. The villages are together a culturally unified group of people who call themselves Gurungs. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 6 Cheley and Syangmochen (5 to 6 hours walking)

The climb from Cheley is up a steep spur to a cairn at 10,270 feet (3130 meters). The climb continues up a long, treeless and dry slope, along the side of the spectacular steep canyon to a pass reaching about 11,610 feet (3540 meters).

Then, climb above Samar to a ridge, before following the trail into another valley filled with juniper trees, and peaceful streams. Climbing up to another ridge and cave, it is possible to climb a steep gorge to Syangmochen. Overnight camping at Syangbochen.

Day 7 Syangmochen and Ghami (4 to 5 hours walking)

From Syangmochen, the trail climbs gently through fields up the center of the valley, passing below the settlement of Tema Gung and Chorten. It becomes a tough climb across the head of the valley to the Nyi La pass at 13,000 feet (3950 meters), the highest point reached on the trek.

About a half hour from the pass is a trail junction, the left trail leads to Ghami. Overnight camping at Ghami.

Day 8 Ghami and Tsarang (4 to 5 hours walking)

From Ghami, the trail to Tsarang descends through the blue gray and red cliffs across the valley to a steel bridge across the Tangmar Chu.

Climbing over another pass the route makes a long gentle descent to Tsarang. Overnight camping at Tsarang.

Day 9 Tsarang and Lo-Manthang (3 to 4 hours walking)

After a descent and climb we will enter the Thong valley. Another short descent leads into the “plain of Aspiration”, before climbing up onto the plateau of Lo Manthang itself, crossing an irrigation canal at the south wall of the city. Overnight at a tented Camp.

Days 10 and 11 Lo-Manthang

Take your time to explore this beautiful area.

Day 12 Lo-Manthang and Tsarang (4 to 5 hours walking)

Today we will trek back down to Tsarang. Overnight camping at Tsarang.

Day 13 Tsarang and Tange (5 to 6 hours walking)

Early in the morning, the trail passes through the river for around two hours and crosses a river from Damodar Kunda, one of the sacred lakes. After crossing the river, the trail climbs up over a pass before reaching the grassless, treeless hill of Tange. Overnight camping at Tange.

Day 14 Tange and Tetang (6 to 7 hours walking)

Today, our trek begins with a fine trail for around an hour before crossing another river. From here, we can have a wide range view of mountains like Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, Tilicho peak and Thorong Peak.

The trail passes through a steep ridge with beautiful views of wind-eroded hills. Continuing the trek, you can see the village of Tetang. Overnight camping at Tetang.

Day 15 Tetang and Muktinath (5 to 6 hours walking)

From Tetang, our trekking trail climbs up till the Gnyu pass, which takes around three and half hours to cross. After walking about two hours, we reach to Muktinath. Overnight camping at Muktinath.

Day 16 Muktinath and Jomsom (3 to 4 hours walking)

Today is the last day of our trek. After breakfast, our trail passes through the village of Jharkot, where we can also visit Jharkot monastery, Tibetan herbal medical center and the old fortress of Jharkot. Continuing the trek towards Jomsom, we will have a view of the Kaligandaki valley and Kagbeni village the entry point to Mustang.

Arrive at Jomsom, celebrate the last day of the trekking with the trekking crew. Overnight Camping at Jomsom.

Day 17 Jomsom–Pokhara–Kathmandu

After breakfast at Jomsom prepared by your Sherpa crew members, all your Trekking crew members including Sherpa assistant will bid you farewell. Then you will take a flight to Pokhara then to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu

Day 18 Free day on your own

Today will be free on your own for shopping, leisure, or any other activities. This day is also kept as buffer day for any delays we may encounter along the way.

Day 19 Departure

Departure transfer to the International airport for your flight to an onward destination.
