Also known as Hanuman Dhoka, the complex of structures is dominated by the Royal Palace of the Malla kings. Full of historical monuments, see the stone statue of Hanuman and the Golden Gate of the Palace, the powerful protector of the entire Durbar Square.
Visit the 3-roof Taleju Temple, built in a typical Newari architectural style and one of the tallest Powerful Goddess Temples at 120 feet (36.6 meters) high. You will see Lord Krishna Temple, built in 1649 AD by Kind Pratap Malla in memory of his favorite 2 dead queens, and Jaggannath Temple, famous for its erotic arts.
Other highlights include the huge stone statue of Kalbhairab, a ferocious form of Lord Shiva, Living Goddess Temple and Kasthamandap, built from the wood of a single tree in the 12th century.
Go to the Swayambhu Nath Stupa for panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and Himalayas. And see the golden roof and silver door of the Pasupatinath Temple, stopping at the Boudhananth Stupa en route to admire the largest stupa in South Asia.
