Private Guided Tour of Ancient Olympia

Private Guided Tour of Ancient Olympia

In 776 BC there was already an idea for peace at Olympia sanctuary. Initially the festival started as a local event that has become Panhellenic (all Greeks) in the next centuries. The culmination was reached in the Greek classical period of 5 century B.C. The world of the gods. of the heroes. of myths, and the sacrificial symposia formed the ethos of the ancient Greeks and defined them as a unique moment in the history of humanity. The institution contributed decisively to the unity of the Greeks, equality,  peace, humanism and good competition which are among the characteristics of this period.  The harmony of body and mind evolved through sport and philosphy. The harmony is reflected in the statues of the gods and the myths.  This is a private guided walking tour of almost 2.5 hours in the Ancient Olympia. Firstly I would like to say that we had a fantastic tour. Our driver, Dimitris, drove us well from place to place and acted as a tourist guide in between. The description in the version when we booked the tour was a bit confusing. It says "skip the ticket lines". The tickets are valid for the museum and the archaeological site. Tickets can be purchased at the museum ticket office or online. Our tour started very early, so there was no queue at the ticket desk. There were no queues to speak of at the entrance to the archaeological site. My recommendation: If you also want to visit the museum, you should get there very early (we were there at around 09:00). Without visiting the museum, I would buy the ticket online in advance next time (the description of the excursion should be corrected here!). For the actual Olympia area, you should buy a travel guide if necessary and plan a tour of the area in advance. We enjoyed the visit and the recommandation of a local restaurant (Thallo).

The guide on the bus from cruise port to Olympia spoke in both English and German, didn't need the German part however the tour through Olypia was 100% English. Kathlina, our guide through Olympia was very knowledgeable and personable. Very good tour. I got to run the 200 metre track just to say I did it.

Very well organised. Brilliant transfer from port to Olympia. We had a very knowledgeable guide around the site and the museum. We didn’t get chance to stop at a village on the way back but to be honest I think this isn’t necessary. More time in Olympia is far more important.

Loved it!!!! Dora was so informative and friendly.lovely lunch at the beach

Beautiful winery and great tour guide. The tour exceeded my expectations.
