Thessaloniki: Small Group Day Trip to Siatista & Kastoria
We start from Thessaloniki and after one hour and thirty minutes driving we make our first stop in Siatista. Siatista is a small town. It is known for its traditional architecture, beautiful churches, and historical monuments. The town has a rich history, dating back to the Ottoman period, and it was an important center of the Macedonian struggle for independence. In Siatista we visit a the winery Dio Filoi. For those who do not wishhave to visit the winery, we have various options either a walk in the beautiful square and a coffee in a traditional cafe or to visit the mansion house of Poulko's. After two hours we continue our journey to Kastoria. Kastoria, on the other hand, is a larger town. It is built on a peninsula on the western shore of Lake Orestiada, and is surrounded by the Vitsi mountain range. Kastoria is known for its stunning natural beauty, as well as its well-preserved Byzantine and Ottoman-era architecture. The town has a long and rich history, dating back to the Neolithic era, and it has played an important role in the cultural and economic development of the region. Today, Kastoria is a popular tourist destination, known for its picturesque neighborhoods, museums, and traditional fur-making industry. In Kastoria there are many options such as a bike ride near the lake or a walk in the city. We will also visit the very nice area of Dolco. In the city of Kastoria you will find one of the most picturesque residential complexes in Macedonia. Taking a walk in the neighborhoods where the city's glorious past is captured, you will walk through narrow cobbled streets and see the majestic Kastorian mansions standing.
