From Tirana & Durres: Boat Tour of Sazani Island & Beaches
First Part - Driving from Tirana/Durres toward Vlora. We will leave Tirana at 07:30 to head toward the southern coastal part of Albania. In around 2:30 hours of drive, we will have reached the “City of Independence”, Vlora. In addition, we will join a small group about the tour organized by our local partners in Vlora. In this 3-hour tour, we will be able to cover some of the best parts of Karaburun-Sazan National Marine Park, renowned for its rich biodiversity and stunning natural beauty. Second PartThe Former Military Island of Sazan Sazan Island stands as the largest island in Albania, a treasure trove of history and natural wonders waiting to be explored. This enigmatic island of the Albanian Riviera has been known since ancient times. Its strategic location has bestowed it with a fascinating military history, evident in the extensive underground tunnels that crisscross beneath its surface. These tunnels, once secretive military installations, now add an air of mystery and adventure to the island, inviting explorers to delve into its hidden depths. Today, efforts are being made to preserve these historical sites, ensuring that future generations can appreciate the island’s rich heritage. Whether you are exploring the ancient underground tunnels, marveling at the untouched rock formations, or diving into the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, Sazan Island offers a unique and enriching experience. It’s a place where history and nature converge, providing a serene escape from the modern world. Second Stop- Haxhi Alia's Cave (Pirates Cave) and some small remote bays. The tour continues with a mesmerizing 40-minute boat ride to the iconic Haxhi Ali Cave, where you’ll have a generous 20 minutes to swim, snorkel, explore, and be enchanted by the cave’s natural beauty. A famous cave with a total length of around 100m has been used by various Sailors and Pirates. Free time to swim and explore the cave. Third Stop - Monastery of Zvernec Connected now by a wooden, picturesque bridge this Island is the seat of the active Orthodox Monastery of Zvernec. On a small island within the Narta Lagoon, the Zvernec Monastery appears before hundreds of pine trees. Also known as the St. Mary Of Divinity Church, the Byzantine-era church was thought to be built sometime during the 14th century. Right next to the entrance to the bridge, metal flamingos shoot out from the water. These are here because Narta Lagoon is known for its actual flamingos. After a long absence, the area is now said to be home to around 3,000 of these long-necked fellows. If you like birds, you can also have a seat along the shore and search the skies and water for pelicans, herons, and a few other species.
