Enjoy the convenience of being picked up from your hotel in Kandy at 7 am. Drive for 2.5 hours in an air-conditioned vehicle to Panduwasnuwara. Arrive at Panduwasnuwara at 9:30 am. Explore the ruins of Panduwasnuwara. Discover the ruins of this ancient kingdom which flourished between 504 BC and 474 BC. See the magnificent royal palace. Gaze at the legendary 297-foot wide tower, notable for its extremely thick walls. Enter the restored Temple of the Tooth Relic. Learn about Panda Wewa, and what is believed to be the first irrigation system in the world. Next, drive to Yapahuwa, a 2.5-hour journey. Discover Yapahuwa’s 13th-century rock fortress. When the Dravidians invaded, this fortress was crucial during King Bhuvenakabahu’s last stand. Here the dramatic story of how the king attempted to save the Holy Tooth Relic of Buddha. After the fall of the Kingdom, the fortress was used as a monastery by Buddhist monks. Admire the remains of the monk’s stupa, which can still be seen on the summit of the rock. The stupa also contains paintings and Buddha statues from the Kandyan era. At 2 pm, stop for lunch at a place of your choosing (at your own expense). Afterward, depart for Kandy at 3 pm and arrive at your hotel at approximately 6 pm.
