Look for the legendary "Big 5" of Africa from the safety of an open safari vehicle on a drive through the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Enjoy lunch overlooking an animal watering hole, and keep your eyes open for native mammals such as impalas and kudus.
What to Expect
Depart Johannesburg or Pretoria at 10:00 for the 2.5 to 3-hour drive to Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Upon arrival at Bakubung Lodge, sit down in the restaurant and enjoy lunch overlooking the watering holes of one of South Africa's most beautiful national parks.
Fringed by 3 concentric rings of hills, Pilanesberg Game Reserve is a long-extinct volcanic crater formed by eruptions some 1,200 million years ago. Climb aboard an open safari vehicle with other tourists at 16:30 for a 3-hour game drive through the park. Listen to your knowledgeable guide as they explain the flora and fauna, and look for wildlife, including the legendary "Big 5" (African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard and rhinoceros) in their native habitat.
Keep a close look-out for the many smaller creatures of the African wilderness, along with their big predators from the safety of your vehicle. Enjoy a short break at the end of your safari drive before the return journey to Johannesburg or Pretoria.
