There was a bit of a false start when the website mentioned a pickup at 06:00, the e-mail "between 06:15 and 06:30" and the final pickup was only at 07:15. That also resulted in the tour in the park being a little bit shortened. But apart from that, the experience was unforgettable. The different guides in the 550km^2 park remained in radio contact, which allowed us to know which animals could be spotted where. So even if the period was not ideal (end February = very hot and high grass), we managed to see 4 of the big 5 (we missed the Buffalo) but we also had clear views on "3 cats" (Lion, Leopard and Cheetah). And all this in the wild. And even without seeing animals, the nature in the park is already of an exceptional beauty. I would not have minded staying the extra hours.

Well organized and 2 hours from Joburg is the pilanesberg park. Ideal for business travelers to get a little taste of Wild Life and safari. The park is limited in the range of animals and therefore you do not see all the animals you would like to see from the Big Five. Nevertheless, it was a very successful day.

The safari itself was amazing. Tumi (our guide) was incredibly knowledgeable (having worked in nature conservation for some years before becoming a safari guide) and worked hard to tell us as much as possible. He also did it with good humour and friendliness. No question was too silly. Lunch was also very enjoyable. The transport at either end could have done with a little more organisation, especially the drop-off. We were picked up from the hotel as advertised at 06:00, but we then transferred to another coach, having done some more pickups in the area. When we returned, we were split between two taxis (minibuses) and it was a bit chaotic trying to get everyone to the right place. Advice to anyone booking: take plenty of bottles of water with you. It gets seriously hot out there and you need to keep hydrated. For budding photographers: make sure you take a long lens. Not every animal will be right up close (but those that do are incredible).
