What to Expect
Explore the splendid forts of the Jaipur region on a full-day tour. You will go to Amer Fort, also known as Amber Fort, where you can ride an elephant to the fort entrance in the foothills of the Aravalli Mountains. You will also discover the spectacular Jaigarh Fort, and the lofty fort of Nahargarh.
Following a pick-up from your Jaipur hotel at 07:00, drive to Amer. Also known as Amber Fort, it is one of the major tourist attractions in Rajasthan, located about 6.5 miles (11 kilometers) from Jaipur city center.
Known for its unique artistic style, construction began in 1592 by Raja Man Singh, the Rajput commander of Akbar's army. A superb example of Rajput architecture, the fort is made of red sandstone and white marble, and borders the serene Maota Lake.
You will climb to the fort entrance on the back of an elephant. Ascend slowly on your mighty beast, and then explore the murals, frescoes, and paintings that depict various scenes from Rajput life, as well as intricate carvings, mosaics, and minute mirror work.
Continue up the Aravalli Mountains to Jaigarh Fort, also known as Victory Fort. It is located on the top of the hill, above the Amer Fort complex. Considered one of the most spectacular forts in India, it was connected to Amer via fortified passages, and was reputed to be the treasure vault of the Kacchwaha rulers.
End your full-day tour at Nahargarh Fort, the first of the 3 forts built by Maharaja Jai Sawai Singh of Jaipur. The fort stands at the top of a rugged point of the Aravalli Mountains, and offers spectacular views.
Constructed in 1734, with further additions by succeeding rulers of the 19th-Century, Nahargarh Fort is a magnificent symbol of the royal heritage of the Rajs, and speaks of their majestic past. Taking its name from the "Abode of Tigers,” it is often referred to as the Tiger Fort.
