Medieval Lucca for Kids: 2-Hour Private Tour

1. Medieval Lucca for Kids: 2-Hour Private Tour

Begin your guided 2-hour private tour at St. Martin Cathedral in the city center of Lucca. The intricacy of the design of the exterior of the cathedral will greet you, then enter to cathedral and allow for mythical animals and ancient legends to be unveiled as you explore. Your guide will explain the symbols seen and the intriguing legends and miracles associated with them. Throughout the tour, sketch the lions, dragons, mermaids, and griffons as seen on the facades of the churches and learn to read the façades of the tower houses that once belonged to the wealthy merchants of Lucca. Continue your tour with a visit to the Church of San Michele where you will find graffiti left inside and outside of the church by silk merchants. From the church, stroll through the medieval streets of Lucca and discover the subterranean area of the city, the walls of the city. After you will visit the historic Zecca, the oldest mint in Europe founded in 650 A.D, and learn how to mint a replica of the oldest European coin. Then finsih your tour with a well-earned gelato.

So GetYourGuide messed up. It allowed me to book, but never gave me a time, just the office hours and meeting place for this tour. Confused, we just showed up in the square and wandered around trying to find an office or something, but eventually stumbled on one of the guides for this tour just meeting up with another family. She kindly called her colleague and they tried to figure out what happened. They would have sent another guide, but she first asked if either of our families minded just sharing our tour (since technically it’s a private tour). The other family was kind enough to allow us to join and we didn’t have to wait at all. We never would have seen or known as much about Lucca without it. The kids were engaged and we walked away with Lucca becoming the highlight of our Tuscany trip. Thank you so much for going the extra mile in customer service and for the wonderful tour!!

Although the tour could not take place in German due to the illness of the German-speaking guide and we booked it in English, it was a great experience for all participants. I had to translate something for my 6-year-old daughter, but she was still there with enthusiasm and immediately established a good connection with Paola and still spoke German with her ;) Paola was very cordial and showed us a lot of exciting things - not only the obvious ones. We learned a lot of new things about Lucca.

We were accompanied by Anna who, with her irony and competence, made the experience both educational and fun. Visiting Lucca was instructive and gave us an overview that we will not fail to explore on other occasions. Visit to be recommended for people of all ages who have an interest in living for a few hours in a bygone era.

Interesting and fun for the kids. Our guide, Lucia was knowledgeable, kind and prepared.

Beautiful for the family and children, very quiet, peaceful and familiar
