What to Expect
This tour takes in some of Istanbul’s most historic neighborhoods, strolling through lovely streets and stopping off at mosques, monuments and charming cafés.

Istanbul is a city of 7 hills and the Süleymaniye area is located on the third hill of the historic peninsula. Named after the 10th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, you will learn why he was known as “Suleyman The Magnificent.” You will hear about Sinan, the greatest of all Turkish architects, and the most beloved son of the Sultan.

You will also hear of Şehzade Mustafa, Prince of Manisa and first born to the Sultan’s concubine “Moon of the Time.” Walk over to Vefa for a chance to taste the traditional Boza drink, made from fermented bulgur wheat.

Stop for lunch before continuing to the historic district of Fatih. Bordering the Golden Horn and the Sea of Marmara it covers much of the area of former Constantinople and is named after the Ottoman Emperor Fatih Sultan Mehmet.

Mehmet became known as “The Conqueror” after he conquered the city of Constantinople when he was just 21 years old. Learn about this remarkable man and what drove him to success.

You will stroll around the large Fatih Mosque complex; the first purpose-built mosque constructed within the city walls. Discover Roman columns, Byzantine churches, Gothic cisterns and other extraordinary monuments, including the towering Valens Aqueduct and the magnificent Şehzade Mosque, sometimes referred to as “The Prince’s Mosque.”

Your guide will bring the great days of the Sultans and the Ottoman Empire alive as you tour this most famous part of Istanbul, before moving on to one of the most interesting, liveliest, and colorful of Istanbul's street bazaars to try your hand at bartering for souvenir gifts.
