  • Admire the island’s Ottoman-era mansions
  • Unwind and enjoy lunch on board a private boat
Full description

Explore Büyükada, the largest of Turkey’s Princes islands, on this 9-hour excursion from Istanbul. Cruise across the Sea of Marmara, watching the sights of Istanbul slip from view.

See the pedestrianized island in the best possible way – by bike (not included) or spend time at leisure, perhaps relaxing on one of its beaches, before returning to Istanbul.

Travel from your hotel by air-conditioned coach to the port with your guide, and board the boat that will take you to the Princes islands. The largest and most interesting of the islands is Büyükada, which is your destination for the day.

From the boat, look back on the sights of Istanbul, seeing iconic landmarks such as Topkapi Palace and the pretty Kiz Kulesi (also known as the Maiden’s Tower), which was featured in the James Bond film, The World is Not Enough.

Dock in Büyükada and then take a stroll through the streets on your own, soaking up the laid-back atmosphere of island life.

Return to the boat and listen as your guide talks about the island’s history during the ride. Learn about its time as a place of exile for banished statesmen and royalty, and of its life as a monastic settlement during Turkey’s Byzantine-Christian period.

Pass lovely wooden mansions that are stunning examples of the island’s late Ottoman-era architecture, and look out over the sparkling sea. Seagulls are everywhere in Büyükada, and if you’d like to feed them your guide will give you simits (bread with sesame seeds) so you can toss them a treat.

Have lunch on the boat, then spend the rest of your day at leisure on the island. Later, meet your guide at a pre-arranged time for your boat ride back to Istanbul. The last leg of your journey will be by coach, and you’ll be dropped off at your Istanbul hotel.

It is a well organized tour, nothing went wrong. You can imagine having almost 200 people on the boat and everything went smoothly. By the way, you actually visit 2 islands on this tour. You have 2 hours for the first island (it was enough to either sunbathe on the beach, or walk around the island/visit cafes). The second island visit it for 1 hour so you can walk around to take photos, have desserts etc. After the tour was over, they carefully looked for every passenger in parking area and put us in the buses back home. By the way, the lunch is sufficient and enough even for someone who likes to eat generously. If you are wondering about its size/contents (we had a big plate which included: fries, rice, fried chicken leg, some pasta and vegetables too).

I would definitely recommend people to take a full-day princes Island tour with lunch while spending their holiday in Istanbul. It is worth of money. Our family really enjoyed the live music performance. We are planning to do it again whenever we come back to Istanbul. And we will recommend our friends too. But there is one thing made the trip a bit disturbing, be very careful with the Iranian photographers on the boat, they will take some photos while you are on the boat and try whatever they can to convince you to buy those photos and promise to send some special edited videos later, believe me if you don't want your holiday ruined, don't pay attention on these photos and videos, it's completely wasting your time and over rated payment for just a few pictures and videos, most importantly they won't keep their promises once they get the payment.

Lovely being on the water in the heat. 2 islands visited. The pick up was on time. Walked to the bus as was busy, 2 kids had to sit on their parents laps. We decided to take tram back to hotel. The boat had a small bar for the purchase of snacks and drinks. Lunch was served on board and was ok. Second island we had more time and for those who like to swim turn left when you get off the boat and there are places within the rocks to access the water. Further down is a beach club.
