Full description
At about 2:45PM, you will be met with your guide at the main entry of the Church of the Holy Savior in Chora. This construction is a Medieval Byzantine Greek Orthodox church, which has been preserved as the Chora Museum in the Edirnekapı neighborhood of Istanbul. The neighborhood is situated in the western part of the municipality of the Fatih district. During the Ottoman Era In the 16th century, the church was converted into a mosque, before later becoming a museum in 1948. The interior of the building is covered with some of the oldest and finest surviving Byzantine mosaics and frescoes; which were uncovered and restored after the building was secularized and turned into a museum. The Chora Church was originally built as part of a monastery complex outside the walls of Constantinople, to the south of the Golden Horn. Literally translated, the church's full name was the "Church of the Holy Savior in the Country", although "The Church of the Holy Redeemer in the Fields" would be a more natural rendering of the name in English.

The tour was about half an hour. It seemed rushed and it was hard to hear and understand my guide even though I was standing right beside him. Also a lot of the site was under construction.
