What to Expect
Throughout its rich history, Istanbul has been the capital of the Eastern Roman and Ottoman Empires. This private, half-day tour takes you to visit unique monuments of Byzantine and Ottoman cultural heritage which are a bit off the routine tourist path.

Begin with a visit to the dungeons of the Fortress of Seven Towers. Built in 1458 by Sultan Mehmed II, this was the place of imprisonment of many foreign ambassadors and Ottoman statesman, as well as a place of execution for some. The fortress was last used as a prison in 1831, and is now a museum.

Continue with a drive along the City Walls to visit one of the oldest and most important churches in Istanbul, the Church of Chora. Originally built in the early 5th century, the Church of Chora houses Byzantine mosaics and murals depicting the life of Christ.

After the church, stop for tea or coffee at one of the most picturesque points over the Golden Horn – the Pierre Loti Café. From here you can either take the cable car down to the Holy Eyup Sultan Mosque, or walk the path which takes you through a Muslim cemetery featuring tulip-carved gravestones.

Enjoy a scenic drive along the shores of the Golden Horn, through the old Greek and Jewish villages of Fener and Balat. Stop for lunch, then head to the Dolmabahce Palace, the breathtaking former residence of Ottoman Sultans with 365 rooms and 22 saloons.
