What to Expect
Enjoy an excursion to the Denizili Province in southwestern Turkey to explore Pamukkale. This tour from Istanbul includes round-trip overnight bus transportation to Kuşadası, where your guide will take you to Pamukkale, the “Cotton Castle”, to discover the ancient and unique natural site.
Pamukkale is a unique geological anomaly. The Cotton Castle was formed over thousands of years by thermal spring waters that carved this magnificent formation of stalactites.
The thermal waters that formed the Cotton Castle have been used for their therapeutic powers since Roman times. Research shows that people have been coming to soothe their ailments in the spring waters since the second century BC.
Pamukkale became important to the ancient Greco-Roman Empire when the city of Hierapolis was built on top of the white Cotton Castle. Your guide will take you to explore the ruins of this ancient city, including a visit to the archeological museum, which features restored Roman-era thermal baths, as well as a number of Bronze Age artifacts.
The Pamukkale-Hierapolis site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.
