What to Expect
Spend 3 days visiting the ancient cities of Ephesus, Pergamum, and Hierapolis. See the last home of the Virgin Mary and the cotton castles of Pamukkale. Round-trip flights between Istanbul and İzmir are part of this package.
Take an early morning flight to İzmir, birthplace of Homer and departure point for Ephesus, one of the 12 cities of the Ionian League during the classical Greek period. Ephesus was also the site of one of the 7 Churches of Anatolia cited in the Book of Revelation.
Visit the old Greco-Roman city of Ephesus, and see the Marble Street, Odeon, Bouleterion, Temple of Hadrian and Serapis, Agora, Library of Celsus, Great Theater, Double Church, Arcadian Way, and Magnesia Gate.
Visit the last abode of the Virgin Mary at Mount Solmissos and have lunch at Selçuk. Afterwards, you’ll see İsabey Mosque, one of the oldest and most impressive works of architectural art remaining from the Anatolian Beyliks. Continue on to the Ephesus Archaeological Museum and the Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.
Later you’ll have dinner at your hotel and spend the night in Kuşadası.
Drive to ancient Greek city of Pergamum, capital of the Kingdom of Pergamum. Visit the Aesculapium, an ancient medical center built in the name of Aesculapis, the God of Medicine, where different healing methods such as blood transfusion, meditation, and therapy with music and the sound of water were first used.
After lunch the tour continues to the Pergamum Acropolis, where you’ll see the Athena and Trojan temples, Temple of Zeus, Temple of Dionysus, Gymnasium of Youth, Odeon, Library, Agora, Great Theater, and Roman Bath.
Have dinner at the hotel and spend the night in Kuşadası.
Drive to Pamukkale (Cotton Castle), a unique and spectacular natural site located near Denizli. Thermal spring waters have carved this fantastic formation of stalactites.
Thermal waters have been used since Roman times for their therapeutic powers. Situated on the plateau you’ll find the thermal center with its motels, thermal pools, and the ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis. Monuments include the ancient thermal baths, which have been restored and converted into an archaeological museum.
After your tour you’ll return to the İzmir Airport for an evening flight to İstanbul.
