Highlights
  • Swim with giant manta rays after sunset and observe these graceful creatures as they feed on plankton from a floating light raft
  • Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies to warm you up after your nighttime snorkel adventure
  • Ride in comfort on this eco-friendly tour with access to snorkel equipment, wetsuits, and flotation devices
Full description

Experience a nighttime snorkeling expedition on a cruise from Big Island. Get up close and personal with stunning manta rays as they gracefully soar through the water. Your underwater adventure will take place in clear warm waters near protected reefs abundant with marine life.

After the sun sets, head off into the nighttime waters to see a fascinating "manta ray ballet" along the Kona coast near the mouth of Keauhou Bay. This point of departure is one of the island’s most successful and consistent manta ray viewing locations. Your snorkeling guide will outfit you with all the necessary gear needed to embark on your experience including snorkel gear, wetsuits, and flotation devices. After a quick safety briefing, plunge into the dark waters and be captivated by these graceful creatures as they feast on plankton.

Grip onto the flotation swim ring with high-illumination blue water lights that attract the plankton on which the mantas feed. Soon afterward, rays will glide through the water almost at arm's length opening their enormous mouths to feast.

After your remarkable underwater adventure, return to your boat and warm up with a nighttime snack of hot chocolate and cookies

Great experience - I‘d 100% do it again So cool to see the Manta rays up close and the guide was really nice. While we were watching the mantas he told us some interesting facts about the mantas and the snorkelling in the area and answered any questions we had. Absolutely worth it!

While reading the reviews I was thinking “is it really that good?”, “aren’t people exaggerating a bit?”, and I finally confirmed that they were totally right. We booked the 8.45pm slot, arrived 8.15, tried on the suits and we were ready to go. A 5’ boat ride to the middle of nowhere goes very fast while the captain joked with us. After 3-4 minutes in the water we’ve seen one manta ray kind of far but suddenly there were at least 6 manta rays coming an inch away from us (LITERALLY AN INCH). This was an incredible experience, we were almost in shock from how close the manta rays were. It was of utmost importance when the guides clarified that the manta rays are harmless, do not have teeth or a poisonous tail, so you just enjoy seeing them from so close. My kids (14, 16) were speechless as well, this was an amazing experience.

This was one of the most unreal, jaw-dropping experiences we’ve ever had. After a short boat ride in our shorts length wetsuits, we swam a very short distance to a long board where we gripped handles and lay on our stomachs to watch the rays and were completely stunned to see about 8 rays pass within inches of us, doing barrel rolls over and over underneath us. Our guides said they usually get around 3 rays at a time, so we were very lucky. They were so incredibly beautiful and almost seemed alien when seen under the glowing lights. I took a video with my camera in a waterproof bag which turned out amazing. Highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience!
