We will move around in our car, but also climb the Mount Isabel with the cable car ad walk around the colonial city centre and the seaside boulevard Malecon. Experience the ride with cable car, and then enjoy the bird eye view of the coast and the Puerto Plata city. Go for a pleasant walk through the exotic National Park of Isabela Peak. Enjoy the vibrant nature in botanical garden. Then discover the colonial city: Independence Parque with the Saint Philip Cathedral and colourful old wooden houses around it, famous Umbrella Street and Dona Blanca Passage. Try fresh coconut from a street vendor! Have some free time for a cup of dominican coffee or a cold beer. You can find some souvenirs here if you wish. Explore the Saint Philip Fortress along the harbor bay and have a look at the fishing boats on the Malecon seaside boulevard. If you're vegetarian or vegan we will arrange something different for you. Soft drinks during the meal are included. After the meal you'll visit the factory Macorix House of Rum where you can taste many kinds of rum and sugar cane liquors. It'll make you feel the Caribbean vibes :) Dominican Republic is known as the world's biggest producer of organic cocoa. You'll visit the organic chocolate factory in Puerto Plata where you can taste it. Finally, we can drop by the supermarket for a while, so you can do some dominican shopping: rum, coffee, cacao, etc all in affordable local prices. At the end of the tour you'll be surprised how much can be done on Puerto Plata City Tour :) It'll be a day that will leave you with great memories from Dominican Republic! No time to waste, take it all.

Puerto Plata: Half-Day Mountainside Horseback Riding

2. Puerto Plata: Half-Day Mountainside Horseback Riding

This half-day horseback excursion includes approximately 2 hours of riding throughout the mountain range just above Puerto Plata. Approximately 1000 ft above the city, there are breathtaking views over the Bay of Silver where, centuries ago, Columbus arrived by ship. Firstly, you will travel by safari truck to the old mountain road which slowly climbs up the mountains, dotted with small local farms and amber and larimar mines. There is also an abundance of coconut palms, sparkling rivers, and tropical flowers. Stepping off the truck, you'll find the horses saddled up ready to take you gently through lush green fields, river beds, and small streams. You will smell, feel, and be immersed in a natural setting outside of the fast pace of life in the big city. After the tour ends, you will be dropped back at your hotel.

Overall, this was an excellent tour! Our guide, Diana, was wonderful! She was very warm, and knowledgeable. She provided interesting information about all the sights that we saw and answered any follow-up questions that we had. She made good recommendations for reasonably priced souvenirs, but not in a pushy way. Unfortunately, on the day that we were going on the tour, there was a last minute closure of the cable car, so we only got to go to the summit in an open air truck. (This was really unpleasant to me due to the diesel fumes.) But the views from the summit and the botanical gardens were amazing. The group was fairly large and we had 2 language groups. Diana made sure to give each group a full explanation. (We chose the bigger group because it was cheaper.) The only downside was that it was a bit rushed, due to size of the group. I would have liked to spend more time at the supermarket, and visit the Amber museum, but still an amazing tour! Highly recommended!!

Our guide, Antonio, was absolutely amazing. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and just overall a pleasure to be around. I would highly recommend him to anyone visiting Puerto Plata, wanting to get a real feel of the city. Jose, our driver, was such a joy to be around and made us feel safe driving around the city. They both made us feel so welcome and gave us a true experience for the city. Thank you both so much!!

First I was at the wrong location (second gate, hotel lobby should have been the pick up point) Antonio was really like my own personal guide educating me about the history of Puerto Plata. Cable car was great and there was never a shortage of rum!
