Atlas Mountains and Agafay Desert Jeep Safari

1. Atlas Mountains and Agafay Desert Jeep Safari

Discover and explore deep Berber country in the High Atlas Mountains, and enjoy the landscapes of desert, valleys, villages, and open plains on a full-day trip from Marrakech.  The drive takes you first to the Agafay Desert, just south of Marrakech, where you’ll experience some dune bashing before continuing on to the Lalla Takerkoust region, making your first stop on the hills overlooking the lake. From here you’ll begin a 4x4 adventure on dirt tracks rarely frequented by tourists and climb up to the Kik Plateau, where you’ll drive from village to village meeting locals, visiting Berber homes, and sampling their traditional mint tea and homemade bread.  When you arrive at Imlil Village, located in the heart of Toubkal National Park, you’ll have the option of hiking for an hour to Armed village or continue to the village by 4x4. The 1-hour hike with a local guide is of moderate difficulty. In the village you’ll be served a Berber lamb tagine for lunch at a local home. You’ll also enjoy Moroccan salads and homemade bread during the meal.  After lunch and a short relaxation break, you’ll head down a gentle hill to Imlil village, where you’ll meet your driver for the 1-hour trip back to Marrakech via the Haouz plains.

2-Day Toubkal Climb from Marrakech

2. 2-Day Toubkal Climb from Marrakech

Spend 2 memorable days in the spectacular Atlas Mountains on this trekking excursion from Marrakech. Take in stunning views, enjoy Berber hospitality, and ascend to the summit of Toubkal. Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Nelter Refuge You’ll be picked up at your hotel after breakfast and head off on the 90-minute drive to Imlil village. This is where you’ll meet the rest of the small team before embarking on a 5-6 hour trek to the small shelter under the top of Toubkal. In some places, the paths are quite steep and narrow, as you continue to rise through the secluded mountains. The route takes you through several passes before you arrive at the shelter where you can enjoy Berber hospitality and spend the night. The first day's trek will involve walking for 5-6 hours and a climb of 1,500 meters (4,921 feet). Day 2: Toubkal Refuge – Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech On the second day, you’ll make the ascent to the highest point of the Maghreb. Note that this climb does not present any major difficulties. The last peak of Toubkal is wide and the climb is not as steep on the approach to the summit. Marvel at the cliffs that overlook the other side of Lake d'Ifni. After reaching the highest point in North Africa, you will descend to Imlil, where you’ll be picked up for the return trip to Marrakech. The duration of the second day’s trek is approximately 8 hours. You will make an ascent of 1,000 additional meters (3,280 feet). In total, the descent will be approximately 2,468 meters (8,097 feet).

What people are saying about Imlil

We were picked up from our hotel on time by our wonderful guide Abderrahim. He spoke excellent English and explained clearly what the programme was for the day which was as advertised. We particularly enjoyed taking the mountain road from the Agafay Desert area up and over into the Asni valley and the National Park. Abderrahim was full of local knowledge and his passion for his home area was evident. He answered all of our questions with great enthusiasm. We would highly recommend him to other travelers.

Mohamed was our guide. He explained many things about his culture and the different things we visited, he took us through the Atlas, to an argan oil cooperative, a waterfall, a very good restaurant, and to the desert. If we return we will repeat with him without a doubt

Very good 4x4 excursion with Larzhen. The visit to the argan oil cooperative was very rewarding with lovely staff. The visit to the waterfalls with Hassan was enjoyable. Multiple landscapes to observe a delight for the eyes. I recommend !

A very nice experience to live in the Berber villages until Imlil. Driver and guide at the top. They were very careful with us and we were able to ask a lot of questions.

Excellent day, in the company of our driver Abdou, who knew how to guide us throughout the day. Magnificent Viewpoints and Breathtaking Landscapes
