From Chania: Imbros Gorge and Sfakia Hike and Swim Day Tour

The Imbros Gorge is located in the province of Sfakia and is the second largest gorge in Crete after Samaria. The picturesque scenery and its wilderness, in combination with the low difficulty of traversing it, make the descent of Imbros ideal for families wanting to expose children to the beauty of nature. The place has a great historical significance as the gorge witnessed an evacuation of several thousands of British soldiers during World War II before heading to Egypt. Back then, the Imbros Gorge mule trail was the only connection between Chania and Sfakia, before the road was built. Remains of this trail can be still seen today. In the morning, a luxurious air-conditioned bus will pick you up from select locations around Chania and transport you to the gorge's entry point. There you will have some free time to take pictures or have some breakfast before you begin your hike. In a leisurely pace, the gorge can be traversed in about 2.5 hours. Almost half-way through, you will reach the narrowest point of the gorge at 1.6 meters (5.2 feet). Behind your group, there will always be a hiking escort to ensure everyone's safety and provide assistance if needed. The gorge ends at Komitades village, from where you will depart for Sfakia, one of the most traditional Cretan villages. There you will have around 3 hours to divide between swimming in the warm Mediterranean waters and enjoying a Cretan meal in one of the local taverns. Early in the evening you will board the bus back to your original pick up points.

Pick up was on time and the journey to Imbros around an 1hr The guide was great and gave us lots of information in particular on what to expect on the walk, our meeting places and restrooms. Good walking shoes are essential and take a warm top as it was a cold wind at the top of the gorge. The walk through thee gorge was about 10km according to Strava. We started Strava from the bus. Took us 2hrs 20min but we didn't rush. The only stop we made was 5mins at the mid way point where you could buy a drink. The Taverna at the end of the walk was nice. We had plenty of time for a drink. The bus ride to the beaches about 15mins. Lovely location. Lunch was good and reasonably priced. Remember to take cash. The card machine wasn't working. Its only a small beach but very pretty and sheltered. Safe to swim. You do pay to use the sunbeds on the beach. We sat on our towels as we were only on the beach for snow hour. This was a great trip.

Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Good information about pick up location and time emailed the day beforr. Efficient, timely pick up, exactly as stated. Our guide was very pleasant and helpful. We were given enough time on our own. The right balance we felt. Walking the Gorge was quite easy and relaxing though Rocky underfoot so good soles are needed. The second part of the excursion was at a lovely, secluded beach with crystal clear water. Beautiful. I think the excursion was excellent value for money. Definitely recommended

About 7km hike down the rocky ground, a bit challenging but absolutely beautiful views, take your time to enjoy it. Fantastic lunch at the tavern with the local beer and pancake with cheese and thyme honey (must try) at the end of the hike. After that we went to a stunning village - free time so we all could choose if we want to swim in the tiny beach, hike to see the cave or just enjoy local tavernas. We had a great time, we were back to the hotel before the dinner. I highly recommend!

The organisation was excellent, the guide was well informed and spoke very good English with good clear instructions and amusing anecdotes. The trip timing was excellent allowing time for all activities. A very enjoyable day. Thank you

Long pick up and drop off and long wait at taverna to get to beach. Too short time at beach and the beach restaurant had sold out of ice creams 😭
