Full description

Embark on a guided whale watching tour to Puffin Island from Húsavík. Take in the views of this island on a speedboat ride and learn about the local marine life and puffins from an experienced guide.

After you have been equipped with a warm safety overall and a life vest, step aboard a modern RIB speedboat to begin your exciting adventure. Head out to the beautiful surroundings of Skjálfandi Bay while your specialized guide demonstrates safety on-board and gives you live commentary on the sights encountered along the way. Your first visit will be Puffin Island during the nesting period (April 15 – August 20 approximately), where you can observe thousands of colorfully-beaked puffins, often called "the Clowns of the Ocean." The high speeds of your boat will make it more likely you will spot some of the bigger whales, such as the majestic blue whales and acrobatic humpback whales. Watching whales in their natural environment from a RIB speedboat is a unique experience.

  • The puffin season is from April 15th – August 20th approximately; there is more focus on whales outside the puffin season

Amazing experience. We saw white beak dolphins right out of the harbor. I thought the puffins would be boring but it was amazing. Our guide, Miro, told us amazing facts about the puffins and we did not expect to see so many! Our captain was also amazing as he maneuvered the boat perfectly so we could see many humpback whales. The day was overcast but the seas were calm-ish. This was a bucket list item for me that did not disappoint. HIGHLY recommended.

Amazing experience! We went with Miro and he was lovely as a guide, told us many fun facts. We saw humpback whales and even the blue whale!! Wow just incredible. Going with a speedboat is TOTALLY worth it, you get super close to the whales and we were able to catch up quickly to to get a glimpse of the blue whale. I wish I could do it again 10x, loved it! For the puffin part, you see their island but you don’t get close to them. If you want to see them up close, better to go to Borgarfjarðarhöfn.

Our tour guide had great personality and kept us entertained with facts about whales and puffins throughout the trip. We saw a handful of whales, the captain knew when to time the whales dives to approximate when they will be reappearing. You will be driven around puffin island (not get off on the island as it isn’t possible), and saw a bunch of puffins from a distance. They were very cute. I had a great time and would definitely recommend.
