Covid-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

After you have been equipped with a warm safety overall and a life vest, step aboard a modern RIB speedboat to begin your exciting adventure. Head out to the beautiful surroundings of Skjálfandi Bay while your specialized guide demonstrates safety on-board and gives you live commentary on the sights encountered along the way. Your first visit will be Puffin Island during the nesting period (April 15 – August 20), where you can observe thousands of colorfully-beaked puffins, often called "the Clowns of the Ocean." The high speeds of your boat will make it more likely you will spot some of the bigger whales, such as the majestic blue whales and acrobatic humpback whales. Watching whales in their natural environment from a RIB speedboat is a unique experience. At the end of the tour, enjoy a little surprise from a local winemaker.

It is worth spending more money and doing it with the boat ... than going on a boat (because people get dizzy and it is slower). If you don't see animals ... they give you the option to repeat it again if they have holes again (another time, day, etc.)

We were there in August. It's cold out on the water regardless of the temperature on shore. We saw whales 6 or 8 times. Be quick if you expect to take a photo. Get an out side or front seat if you can otherwise you have people jumping up in front or along side of you that block your view. The Captain and the guide knew exactly where to go to find the whales and how to anticipate their next breach.

Excellent and unforgettable experience

I was slightly worried about these small boats and unpredictable Icelandic weather. But we were lucky luck - the sea was calm and our RIB boat ride was smooth. We got warm and waterproof overalls, so we felt comfortable even during a fast boat ride. Our guide was a talkative, smart and enthusiastic guy and he made the tour pretty enjoyable. We've seen white-beaked dolphins, a minke whale and a humpback whale. The boat is super fast, so when you see a whale, it takes just a few seconds before you get close to it. We loved the whale watching tour and when we're in Húsavík, we'd love to repeat it.
