Anyone interested in ancient architecture who likes to be outside in the fresh air rather than walking around in an Egyptian museum, will find this day trip the perfect choice. Visit Dahshur, Saqqara, and Giza with departures from El Gouna and Hurghada.
What to Expect
On this full-day (14-hour) trip you’ll be picked up at the entrance to your El Gouna or Hurghada hotel and head northwards, taking in views of the Egyptian landscape. The driver will be happy to stop whenever you like.
First on the itinerary is the old Egyptian capital of Memphis, where you’ll see the ruins, including the fallen colossal statue of Pharaoh Ramesses II and the Alabaster Sphinx. You’ll also visit Saqqara, the ancient graveyard of Memphis, with its monumental graves, including various mastabas (flat-roofed, rectangular tombs), and Pharaoh Djoser’s 4,600-year-old Step Pyramid.
Continue on to Dahshur, a royal necropolis comprising numerous pyramids and graves. The most impressive ones are those built by the Pharaoh Snofru, who wanted to leave the concept of the step pyramid behind and construct what we know today as a true pyramid.
Enjoy a stop for lunch before visiting Giza to see the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx. You’re sure to be impressed by the Great Pyramid, the oldest of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to be largely intact today.
In the evening you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.
