Hidden away among high-rise apartment towers and busy highways, the past lives of the so-called five great clans of Hong Kong live on in the New Territories. One such clan is the Tang, and the Ping Shan Heritage Trail takes you on a journey in a historical part of Hong Kong that has been populated by them since the late Yuan dynasty. Taking in historic sites around the New Territories, the heritage tour brings to life the customs and cultures of these clans and provides a fascinating glimpse of Hong Kong's rich heritage.
During the tour, visit Tang Clan Ancestral Hall, constructed in 1273, this hall is a magnificent three-hall structure with two internal courtyards. Discover Kun Ting Study Hall, used both as an ancestral hall and a place of study, this 1870s edifice is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Explore the Tai Fu Tai Mansion, which was probably built in around 1870, by Man Chung-luen, a successful merchant and renowned philanthropist.
