Honda Lagoon, Potosi

Day 1: We will pick you up from your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile and we will take you to the Bolivian border, Hito Cajones. Right after crossing the border and once we arrive in Bolivia you can enjoy a marvelous scenery dominated by the Licancabur volcano with at its foot one of the jewels of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve: the Green anda white Lagoon which will be the starting point of our trip with a 4X4. This place is like no other in the world. Once we leave the Green Lagoon behind we will enter a large landscape: the Valley of the Ladies desert. We will continue to the hot springs of Polques where we will have a bath before continuing to the Geysers of Sol de Mañana where we can observe the volcanic activity. Afterwards we will arrive at the Red Lagoon which is another precious jewel of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. This lagoon is the most important place in the area known for its three different species of flamingos. The red color of the lagoon is produced by active algae which react with the sun radiation and wind. The pink color of the feet and feathers of the flamingos is also produced by the same algae, which is their basic food. These fabulous deserts own a great variety of colors such as red, orange, ocre, brass, browns and beige. We will visit the Stone Tree and on the way we will meet the wild vicuña with its fine and high figure. We will continue our way towards Paso del Inca and spend the night at private rooms in the middle of the desert. Day 2: Today we will drive along the lagoons Ramadita, Honda, Chiarkota, Hedionda and Cañapa where we will come across a large number of flamingos consisting of three different species. (Andino, James and Chilean). The flamingos can be seen sharing the volcanoes eternal snow and green sides together with many other bird species such as the Andean seagulls and wild ducks. The colors of the sand and the rocks are a product of the the millennial winds together with the presence of borax and sulfur. We will have lunch on the shore along side one of the lagoons. After lunch, we will visit Isla Pescado (Fish Island), where we will ascend to the top for a close encounter with the white desert. You continue our trip to Chantani where we will visit the pitchers museum and get to enjoy the impressive landscape. After visiting the museum we will continue to Incahuasi Island which is located at the center of the Salar de Uyuni. This place is one of the biggest tourist attractions of the region. From the top of the island we will be able to enjoy a 360 degree view of the Salt flats. We will visit the Salt mounds near the village of Colchani. Half an hour later we will arrive at Uyuni.

Itinerary Day by Day Day 1: San Pedro - Hito Cajón – Huayllajara. The tour starts from 7:00 a.m. to 08:00 a.m. (Chilean Hour) Picking up passengers from hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. After completing the migration process at the Chile-Bolivia border, depart from Hito Cajón, the Bolivian border point, at 09:30 a.m. (Bolivian Hour) in a 4WD vehicle with a Private English-speaking guide. Tour highlights include: • Lincancabur Volcano Viewpoint • Green Lagoon and White Lagoon • Salvador Dalí Desert • Polques Hot Springs • Sol de Mañana Geysers • Red Lake with flamingos Night rest: Basic Hostel in Huayllajara: 6-bed shared room for the same group from the 4WD car tour, with shared restroom facilities. Meals: Lunch and Dinner. Day 2: Huayllajara – Agencha Begin your trip after breakfast at 7:00 a.m. with visits to: • Stone Tree • Siloli Desert • Cañapa Lagoon • Hedionda Lagoon • Chiarcota Lagoon On Lagoons, you can observe flamingos in their natural habitat. Next, continue along the rocky road to visit: • Ollague Volcano Viewpoint • Rock Valley Night rest: Basic Hostel in Agencha: twin or 3-bed shared room for the same group from the 4WD car tour, with private toilets in each room. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Day 3: Agencha – Uyuni Town Start your journey after breakfast with visits to: • Uyuni Salt Flats • Incahuasi Island (to see giant cacti and rock formations made of petrified coral) • A hotel made completely out of salt, now used as a museum and restaurant • Flags of the World (where you can bring your own flag and place it for free) • Monument of Dakar Racing Next, continue visiting: • The small settlement of Colchani (salt miners’ workshops next to the salt flats) Here, you can find handicrafts made of salt and textile art made from llama and alpaca wool, which make excellent souvenirs. Finally, arrive at Uyuni town around 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. Meals: Breakfast and Lunch. Important Information *During the rainy season (from January to April), it is not possible to access Incahuasi Island. We also may sleep in a different location due to road access.

Stop at the salt mounds which are small salt pyramids created by the people of Colchani to dry the salt and then transport it to the town to be processed. You will visit the staircase to heaven, the monument of flags and the countless salt figures carved by the residents. You will enjoy a 360° view from Incahuasi Island located in the middle of the salt flat, later you will see a view of the Tunupa volcano and arrive in Tahua to visit the Chantani museum. Pass through Puerto Chuvica and continue exploring the salt flat until you reach San Juan del Rosario to observe the history and life of the Lords of Lípez. Today it is possible to find evidence of their culture, daily life and customs, gathered in a small museum where valuable pieces stand out. Enjoy the view of the Ollague volcano. In the afternoon we will continue the trip to the lagoons of Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarkota, Honda and Ramaditas, where we will be able to observe the three different species of flamingos. Live the trip near the lagoons, surrounded by volcanoes with their eternal snow caps mixed with landscapes full of green and other magical colors. After passing through the Inca Pass and the last lagoon, we will enter a huge desert area without roads. These fantastic deserts bring together many different colors, from brown, red, orange, brass and beige, which are shown successively at each curve of the route. We will spend the night at the Tayka del Desierto Hotel. At night you will enjoy a stargazing tour in the middle of the desert. Day 2: You will visit Stone Tree which is a tree shaped geological structure, and the Red lagoon. Afterwards we will arrive at the Geysers of Sol de Mañana. The desert and Salar of Chalviri offers us a landscape combining the white of the snow and the red brown of the desert together with the blue of the water. You will have the opportunity to take a swim in the Hot Springs of Polques. Afterwards you will visit Valley of the ladies which is a geologic wonderland created by the winds. Visit the Green Lagoon located at the foot of the Licancabur Volcano. We will arrive there by lunch time, which is the best time to see how its waters change colours from emerald green to a deeper green. From this point we will then continue towards the Chilean border and travel back to San Pedro de Atacama. Drop off in your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama around 15:00 PM.
