Explore the bustling heart of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, on an 8-hour sightseeing tour of alternative sites, such as the Fito Museum. Then, drive to the Cu Chi Tunnels, and underground city for freedom fighters in the Vietnam War.
What to Expect
Enjoy an alternative tour of Ho Chi Minh City, known as Saigon until 1976, and see some of its lesser known sites, such as the Fito Musuem of traditional Vietnamese medicine. You will then drive to the legendary Cu Chi Tunnels to explore the underground network used as a subterranean city by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War.
Following a pick-up from your hotel at 08:00, go to the History Museum to see the special exhibition of the 5th century Oc Eo civilization. Alternatively, visit the First Museum of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine (Fito Museum) to admire the large collection of traditional Vietnamese medical implements, and learn the history of medicine in Vietnam from 2000 BC onwards.
Continue to the Museum of War Remnants, which provides a partial, but riveting, perspective of the Vietnam War.
After lunch (own expense), travel out of Saigon to the Viet Cong tunnels at Cu Chi. This incredible system of tunnels and rooms covers nearly 250 kilometers and was used to shelter more than 16,000 communist guerillas during the war. Watch a short introductory video to see how they were constructed, then spend the next hour exploring the maze of tunnels.
Marvel at the relics on display, including various mantraps, the remains of an American tank, and numerous bomb craters made by the 500 pound bombs that were dropped by B52 bombers.
For those looking for an adrenaline fix, there's even the opportunity to fire rounds from an AK47 or MK16 at the nearby rifle range.
