What to Expect
Depart Ho Chi Minh City at 07:30 for the 3-hour bus journey to Cái Bè. Upon arrival, board a motorized boat to traverse the waterways of the Mekong en route to the floating market. Watch the locals buying their fresh produce for about an hour, and then walk to a local factory to see how local produce such as coconut candy and crispy rice cakes are made.
Next, travel the Mekong by boat, stopping at the An Binh Islands, famous for their year-round fruit gardens. Break for lunch after some sightseeing, and then climb aboard a rowing boat to navigate the maze of shallow canals shaded by coconut trees. Pedal through the village by bike, and check out the local shops or rest in a hammock!
Continue to Vĩnh Long for a stroll around the marketplace. Discover what the rural people of Vietnam sell to make a living. Interact with the vendors and see how friendly and respectful they are. Enjoy some free time to shop before driving back to Ho Chi Minh City at around 19:00.
