Plovdiv: Central Balkan National Park Guided Hike

Plovdiv: Central Balkan National Park Guided Hike

Seeing the highest peaks of it and also about half of Bulgaria from above in just a day is an opportunity you shouldn't miss! If that's not enough for you we can add a grand finale to the adventure. If you would like to feel even more weightless and free - there's only one way. Flying. Yes, you can paraglide down from the mountain with your personal professional pilot! The tour starts with pick up from your hotel/accommodation in Plovdiv at 08:00. After an approximately 1-hour drive, we will reach the town of Sopot. From there we will take the chairlift which will shorten the walk to Dobrila mountain hut to around an hour and a half. From the hut (1804m a.s.l.) we will gain some more altitude ultimately getting to Levski peak (2166m a.s.l) - this will take approximately 1 and a half hours. The route does not have any rocky or dangerous parts. However, the route has some amazing views, the one from the peak being definitely the most spectacular. Along the way in both directions, we can use the hut as a rest stop and also for some snacks. After we descend from the mountain, on foot and then with the chairlift or something more exciting (optional is to paraglide your way to the parking), we drive back to Plovdiv. The tour ends with drop-off at your hotel/accommodation.

From Sofia: Koprivshtitsa & Historic Homes Tour w/ Transfer

Embark on a scenic adventure through the foothills of the Balkan Mountains and reach the small town of Koprivshtitsa, just southeast of Sofia. Join an immersive tour and visit Koprivshitsa’s historic 19th-century homes, with colorful courtyards and high stone walls. Depart from Sofia and drive toward Koprivshtitsa to better understand the roots of the Bulgarian Renaissance Period. Start your guided walk at the monumental mausoleum dedicated to the April Uprising, located in the central square. Venture to the home of local merchant Nencho Oslekov, marvel at its ornate facade, and see how a well-off Bulgarian family lived in the late 19th century. Admire the homes of symbolist poet Dimcho Debelyanov, the Karavelov family, and revolutionary leaders Todor Kableshkov and Georgi Benkovski. Wander around the curved and narrow cobblestone streets with numerous stone fountains and stop at the iconic Assumption of Virgin Mary Church. After the tour, have plenty of free time for lunch and shopping before being transferred back to Sofia. The local tour operator, Traventuria, was awarded a “Business Which Supports Biodiversity” certification by the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation for its “Tours with a Cause” initiative.

At 08:00 your guide will pick you up from your hotel. You will have around 2 hours of the beautiful drive next to the Central Balkan mountain. When we reach Sopot you will meet your paragliding instructor with whom you will make the tandem jump. We will climb up the mountain on a 20-minute picturesque trip with a chairlift. When we get on the top is when the fun begins. You will prepare and check your wing and you will jump from the edge of the cliff. Do not worry, your instructor will be highly experienced and his task is to make your jump amazing. You will admire the views of the Thracian valley and Balkan mountains in the best possible way. During the jump, your instructor will take some photos of your jump so you can have the best possible souvenir from Bulgaria. When you land and take your breath, your journey will continue with a visit to one of the most famous towns in Bulgaria- Koprivshtica. This little town is like a time machine that will transport you back into the 19th century. The place is an architectural reserve and has kept the spirit of those days. Your guide will explain to you about the struggle of the Bulgarians against Ottoman rule and the price that this town paid. You will also have the chance to have delicious traditional lunch.
