Miyajima: An insider’s guide to Japan’s shrine island

Miyajima packs a punch for its small size. Just a 10-minute ferry ride from Hiroshima, this island is home to Japan’s most photographed landmark: the “floating” torii of the Itsukushima Shrine. But there’s more to this UNESCO World Heritage site. Hike Mount Misen for epic panoramic views, wander ancient forests where deer roam free, and time travel through centuries of Japanese history and spirituality. The trip was incredible. The only small item I would recommend to future tourers would be to spend 15mins in each section/exhibition area of the Hiroshima peace museum. There are 4 sections but as we didn’t have any advice on what to do or how to do it, our entire group of 40 ppl only saw the first section, missing the next 3. Apart from this, the authentic okonomiyaki experience was incredible with staff teaching us how to eat it as well. All staff were 10/10 friendly, respectful, exciting and fun. The order of activities were perfect and I recommend you continue providing this service in the same manner. Tsutomo is as an incredibly friendly, kind and helpful gentleman. His love and pride of being Japanese explodes out of him showing truly how knowledgeable and passionate he is in his job. This man alone makes the tour worth doing. In short: AMAZING TRIP

Hello. I just wanted to send a message to say what a great day we had with Hamza today on the Hiroshima tour. He was very polite, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in getting the tickets for the museum and ferry. We requested Hiroshima okonomiyaki for lunch and he found a place for us that was open so we could try. We loved Miyajama island wished we had more time here, next time we might need to stay a few nights. Thank you for a great tour and even better tour guide.

Our guide Masa was amazing. Lots of communication and options from the second we booked the trip, and on the day was full of information and the personal aspects having been born and raised in Hiroshima. Has been the highlight of our trip and will be tough to beat. Thank you again Masa!

The guide was entertaining and knowledgeable, the sites were fun. It was great all around

Mr Wajid is a friendly, helpful, informative guide.
