Full description
Enter Tokujuji Temple and have a traditional Japanese cultural experience, combining your choice of a tea ceremony, calligraphy lesson, or both, all while wearing traditional Japanese dress. During the calligraphy lesson, you'll learn about the tools used and how to draw the lines with step-by-step instructions. You'll have plenty of time to practice one or more of the Kanji, Chinese Characters, to draw. While you practice, your instructor will make a sample of your name. Once you have practiced the Kanji, practice how to draw your name in Japanese, either in Hiragana or Katakana. Select the best of your work and sign it and stamp it. It will be put into a cylinder to take home. The tea ceremony has 5 steps. First, the tea master will bring in the tools. Then, they will purify the tools, make the tea, clean the tools, and take everything back to the Mizuya, backyard. Enjoy sweets and matcha tea. Learn how to drink the tea in the correct manner and how to make the tea. Take a walk in the beautiful Japanese garden and have pictures taken.

We loved this experience so much! Spending the afternoon being beautifully dressed, learning about calligraphy and experiencing the tea ceremony with such kind and wonderful hosts made this day the most memorable of our 3-week vacation in Japan! The location is also very beautiful. We learned so much about Japanese culture. We love that we could take back home our calligraphy artwork and now we are looking forward to the beautiful photos in the garden. I will definitely recommend this experience to anybody traveling to Japan! Thank you so much!!!

Tea Ceremony & Calligraphy lesson conducted with exemplary skill. Genuine warmth beauty & true essence of a Japan! When I next come to Hiroshima I will definitely go again as simply my best experience in Japan. I’ve been to Tokyo Osaka, Kyoto, Nara even badly run Kobe and these ladies were the best!

My family and I had a great time during our tea ceremony experience! We were given our choice of a traditional Japanese kimono to be dressed in and shown the ways of an authentic tea ceremony. We then were shown how to write our names and a character of our choice in Japanese. The two ladies who run it were very welcoming, knowledgeable and polite. Overall I would highly recommend this and was most definitely a highlight of our trip.
