Incredible visit! This is just entry ticket no guide or tour, you can buy an audio guide at the reception for a few euros which was good to have and learn about the history. I went on a Tuesday morning in July and it was very quiet and felt at times like I had the whole place to myself. I’m a big fan on the show Merlin filmed here, and it really feels like stepping into the show itself when you’re here

Meet your host at the Château de Pierrefonds. If you are traveling from Paris the best route is to travel along the A1 motorway and take the number 9 exit then D200, Compiègne then D973, Pierrefonds. The Château is 80 km from Paris and Lille. If you are coming from Lille the best route is to take the A1 motorway exit number 11. Alternatively, if you are coming from Reims take the number 8 exit via RN31 Compiègne to D335 and from Rouen take exit number 2 via RN31 to Compiègne then D973.

Know before you go

  • Free entrance for visitors under 18 years of age or EU citizens under 26: you must show a photo ID with a picture at the ticketing station first, before going to the entrance of the monument
  • Free entrance: The first Sunday of January, February, March, November and December and during European Heritage Days (3rd weekend of September each year)
  • The park closes 45 minutes before the monument closes.
  • The last entry to the site is 1-hour before closing time
  • Closed January 1st, May 1th and December 25th
