In the past, water puppetry showed the daily life of villagers such as farming, fishing and romance. Now, watch plays about ancient Vietnamese legends, myths and history. The world-famous Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre in Hanoi has its roots in an art form that dates back to the 11th century. The tradition of water puppet theater stems from a time when rice paddy fields were flooded and villagers would create entertainment by standing in the waist-deep water with the puppets performing over the water. Using large rods to support the puppets it appeared as if they were moving across the water with the puppeteers hidden behind a screen.

The show is very interesting to watch and the musicians, singers, and puppeteers are really talented. There were a lot of distractions from the audience that prevented me from enjoying the show. I really wish that the audience had better manners. Many large groups came in late, disrupted the show by making people stand up to let them in the rows, people holding up phones to take pictures, or record which made it hard for the people sitting behind them to see the show, and the talking!!! I was shocked and agitated and embarrassed by the poor audience etiquette. I wish the theater would lay down some rules at the beginning of the show or remind people to have good manners. If you book tickets to this show, please arrive on time and think about the people around you.

The actual water puppet show is great but I would definitely NOT recommend people to buy tickets through get your guide. The tickets were heavy marked up. I worked out by 300% and the seats weren't special. There was no extra service and it wasn't easier in anyway by booking through this company. Very big waste of money!

Das Wasserpuppen-Theater war sehr schön und ein Muss wenn man in Viatnam ist. Aber, die Adresse die im Internet steht um die Wallet-Karten gegen normale Eintrittskarten einzutauschen ist schon mal falsch. D.h man muss zuerst zum Theater, die sind teilweise überfordert, und geben dir dann eine Adresse wo du hinlaufen musst. Am besten wäre es, wenn man Internet hat. 10 Minuten vor Beginn der Show ist Eintritt. Sie lassen leider trotz Start der Show, immer noch Leute rein ... Achso und der Eintrittspreis kostet Vorort 100B =Sind etwa 4,00€ p.P + was man zusätzlich zahlen muss den AudioGuid. Ich bin der Meinung man kann auf den AudioGuid verzichten, weil sie sehr wenig in der Show English reden bzw. übersetzen . Man kann sich auch so denken was das ist Würde es mir überlegen Vorort zukaufen . Es ist einfacher . Ich hoffe es hilft weiter
