Explore the UNESCO World Heritage City of Hue by boat. Cruise along the Perfume River and see the city’s historic monuments, including the Thien Mu Pagoda and Hon Chen Temple. Enjoy lunch on board your boat and watch the sunset on the water.
What to Expect
Located halfway between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Hue City is full of history. The former Imperial City became the country’s capital under the 19th-Century Nguyen dynasty, and the 3-square-mile walled Citadel was built along medieval designs.
On this full day tour by boat you will cruise along the Huong River, fragrantly named Perfume River in English. Float by serpentine banks, dotted with colorful dragon boats and crossed by the Trang Tien Bridge, which at night is lit by a necklace of constantly changing colored light bulbs.
Keeping the group between 2 and 12 people, you will enjoy an intimate atmosphere as your guide relates the history of this most magical place. You will depart from your hotel at approximately 08:00 to join your boat at the pier.
The city is known for its historic monuments, which have earned it a place in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. The seat of the Nguyễn emperors was the massive Citadel, containing formal gardens, pagodas and moats drenched with lotus flowers.
Occupying a large, walled area on the north side of the Perfume River, you will cruise past it on the way to the Thien Mu Pagoda, Hon Chen Temple and the Mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang.
Enjoy lunch on your boat and in the afternoon, return to Hue to watch the daily life of the local people who live along the banks of the river. Watch as the sun sets on the Perfume River and turns it pink as your tour concludes.
