The bus ride is very long (6 hours), but you do get a small break every 2 hours. There are toilets at the stops but you do need to pay for them if there is someone outside. Remember to bring plenty of water as there is none for free - all drinks need to be paid for. The homestay itself was simple but nice. The guides where helpful (though they do try to sell you things afterwards- remember to haggle as the prices are initially quite high). The walk to the homestay is also quite long (6 hrs of walking, 2 on the way back). The walking is slow though so it is not too difficult. I recommend good shoes although the locals do walk it in sandals and wicker backpacks.

I totally recommend the experience. Our guide Khu has taken us through rice paddies, bamboo forests, introduced your whole family and even showed us his own house. All this with a smile, many explanations and very fluent and correct English. We are very happy with her. The trekking of the first day was about 11km seeing spectacular landscapes. On the second day, a shorter trekking seeing waterfalls and bamboo forests. The landscape is spectacular and the attention is very close and friendly.

At first I had my doubts, but they disappeared very quickly. For now, the best activity of the trip. Nick, gave us all the information we needed and helped us at all times via whatsapp. Our guide in Sa Pa is a charming person, she constantly worried that we were fine.
