Jogang Observatory This is an outdoor space that highlights the heartrending beauty of Gaepung-gun in North Korea from a distance of just 1.4 kilometers, making it the closest observatory. Jogang River The Jogang River is located downstream of the Hangang River, where the Imjingang, Hangang and Yeseonggang Rivers meet and flow into the West Sea. The name Jogang means a “large river” or “grandfather river,” since it seems as vast as the ocean. Before the Korean War, this area was a large village where around 100 households were located. However, after the designation of the area as the “Neutral Waters at Hangang River Estuary” in the 1953 ceasefire agreement, the villagers lost their homes and were scattered in all directions. The Jogang River Basin, which people had stopped visiting over the past few decades, became the repository of a diverse ecosystem and the home to numerous endangered and protected species. Aegibong Peace Park is a small mountain at Hill 154 which is situated on the boundary between Gageum-ri in Haseong-myeon and Jogang-ri in Wolgot-myeon of Gimpo-si, whose original name was “Ssukgatmeori Mountain” since it resembles a daisy crown. It is the site of the heartwrenching myth about the Governor of Pyeongan Province and Aegi during the Qing invasion of Joseon, which has been passed down for generations, and is also a strategic military point where a fierce battle took place during the Korean War
