Full description
Enjoy a relaxing Arabic tradition at Granada’s Hammam Al Ándalus, and experience the refreshing sensation of authentic hot, cold and warm steam rooms, fed by thermal waters. Bathing can be alternated with periods of relaxation in the relaxation room where you can sip on mint tea and unwind to soothing Andalusian music. Located at the foot of the Alhambra, behind the ancient mosque, now known as the Church of Santa Ana, Hammam Al Ándalus is dedicated to stress-free experiences. Move freely between the hot, warm and cold baths, recreating the original rhythm of an Andalusian Hammam. Top it all off in the steam room, which you can return to as often as you like between swims, and unwind in the rest room.

The bath house at Hamman is a must do. After days of walking the city, and hiking Monchil, you will feel right at home with the very pleasant staff, the various baths from ice cold, warm, to hot, and the slightly sweet mint tea stations. If you have a massage, it’s a good Swedish style. Don’t expect deep tissue, this is there “firm” massage, but it’s still wonderful. The whole relaxing experience transports you to another time.

The only thing that took me by surprise was that I (a female) was served by a male masseur. The masseur asked me whether I would like to have "more pressure," "moderate," or "more relaxing." I chose "more pressure" and it's still quite gentle. There's only one warm bath, one hot bath, one cold bath and one steam room, so it's not that complicated. I found both the hot and cold baths relaxing, though some might find the cold bath too cold. The steam room was most of the time "steam-less" and they didn't refill the tea pots often enough. All in all, an experience worth trying. (And I slept very well at night after the massage.)

Hammam Al Andalus is an interesting excursion. At the Hammam instructions were easy to follow and the establishment was well organised. Of the three bathing pools, the cold pool was actually too cold to enter after the tepid or hot which was disappointing. I frequently swim in a pool at 17C or 18C. I felt that this low temperature was too low after either of the other two pools. The massage was good but brief. At arrival there was confusion about the package I had bought, and I ended up paying an additional E14.00 for a 15 minute massage.
