Full description

Experience a culinary walking tour of Hamburg's Shanzenviertel. Characterized by the wide variety of cafes and bars, the district will delight you with endless culinary options.

Head into five local food hotspots and try the region's flavors as your guide explains their backstories. Learn about the history of this iconic neighborhood from your local guide along the way. The Sternschanze was once a star-shaped defense structure. Today, it enjoys a cult status similar to the Reeperbahn.

Nowhere else in Hamburg will you have the opportunity to see the fight against gentrification and commerce at first hand, and on the tour you will discuss current topics such as the increase in rent prices and the trade and interest of investors. Explore a district that has emerged as one of the trendiest areas in the city. With an area of 0.60 square kilometers, the Sternschanze is one of the smallest but also most exciting neighborhoods in the whole of Hamburg.

Right in the heart of the district is the left-wing autonomous center, the “Rote Flora.” Follow in the footsteps of Carl Hagenbeck and the true “revolutionaries,” and visit the old piano factory.

Along the way, stop at some of the local favorites in the area and enjoy the culinary diversity of the district with five different delicacies, as well as hear exciting stories and discover true craftsmanship.

Great tour through the Schanzenviertel. Our tour guide was great. She guided us competently and with pleasure through the Schanzenviertel and entertained us with many really interesting stories and background information. From a culinary point of view, it was also a round thing, from Hamburger Franzbrötchen to Pakistani samosas, Italian Bruchetta and Portuguese Pastel de Nata, there was also a lot to discover in culinary terms. Conclusion: highly recommended.

Despite the sometimes miserable April weather, a successful tour with lots of information, anecdotes and little treats from all over the world. We were traveling with another nice couple and Britta, who explained the historical and political background of the Schanzenviertel to us in an entertaining way. A thoroughly successful tour with lots of fun. We recommend.
