From that point, you will walk downhill. The guide will take you through various streets of Reykjavík, passing by important buildings of great architecture, and will detail their history as you walk by. German-speaking Golden Circle small group tour from Reykjavík - shore excursion

This day tour with a German-speaking tour guide in a small group with a maximum of 19 participants is the ideal shore excursion for cruise ship passengers and leads from Reykjavík on the so-called Golden Circle via the Hellisheiði plateau to Hveragerði, where we make a stop at an earthquake fissure in a shopping center, the Kerið crater, the impressive Gullfoss waterfall and the Haukadalur geothermal area with the active Strokkur geyser. On the way, you will stop at a farm that makes excellent ice cream from the milk of its own cows. In addition to ice cream, you can also buy waffles and hot drinks or simply take a look inside the cowshed and the nursery with calves. After a short stop at the warm lake Laugarvatn, on the shores of which are hot springs used for baking bread, we reach Þingvellir National Park, where you will experience Icelandic history and plate tectonics. You will visit the beautiful Öxarárfoss waterfall and Almannagjá, where the Alþing parliament, founded in 930, used to meet. On the way back, if the ship's departure time allows, there will be a short detour through the center of Reykjavík with a photo stop at Hallgrímskirkja. The departure time and tour duration is suitable for most cruise ships in the port of Reykjavík, e.g. the ships of Aida, Mein Schiff, MSC and Costa.

Reykjavik: Guided City Walking Tour

Reykjavik: Guided City Walking Tour

We start our city tour at Arnarholl hill, next to the statue of Ingolfur Arnarson, the Norseman considered to be the first settler of Reykjavik. After a brief introduction to Iceland’s early history and few interesting facts on Arnarholl hill itself, we move to another historical spot, Lydveldingsgardurinn (The Republic Park), before heading to the old city centre. We stop by the Parliament, visit the Pond, the city Hall and enjoy a peaceful walk through the narrow streets enclosed between the traditional, colourful dwellings of the olden days…a little oasis, almost hidden behind Reykjavik’s main roads t’s definitely worth drawing our attention to some of the area’s most relevant architectures and their curiosities, before continuing the walk toward the famous Hallgrimskirkja church. We’ll make our way up to the well-known city landmark walking by a picturesque neighbourhood where street arts, beautiful backyards, charming homes, modern and old-fashion, piece together a textbook example of local cityscape. We’ll also visit the interesting sculpture park behind Einar Jonsson’s museum, our last stop before walking back to Arnarholl Hill.

Jon the tour guide was great. Good personality and easy relaxed presentation throughout tour. It was obvious he had good relationships with the resaurants he selected. Great variety of local foods including ferment shark (a must for the daring). My wife has a dairy intolerance and Jon did a great job making sure she could eat the food. At one resaurant there was a mix up and the fish was prepared in a butter sauce. He and the chef worked together to quikly prepare an alternative fish dish. I would highly recommend thus tour for a lovely evening of dining and history if you are in Reykjavik.

I book Hop On Hop Off tours whenever I am in a new city. Very helpful for getting an understanding of the city. It also allowed me to see sights further away from where I was staying. Seeing the Perlan Museum as part of this tour was a great idea as I would have had to pay for transportation if I went another time. Perlan Museum was very good and a nice introduction to what Iceland is all about.

The tour was great. The guide gave you insights into the key pieces of the villa, how it came about and some local history from that period. If you want to see a gallery but get the most from it then this type of tour is the one to do. We were also lucky in that it was a small group 7 people. With many inside being larger so harder to get more detail.

Magnasun was great! He was so energetic but took all the time we needed with questions. We got a lot of good historical info mixed with some cute antidotes. Then, we used all that information to give our friends a great tour the next day!😁

As our “personal” guide for the tour Luca was fantastic and took his time showing us all the relevant sites. He was very informative and his knowledge of Reykjavik and Iceland was first rate. Highly recommended and a good sense of humour!!
