Experience a day in the life of the Zhuang and Yao peoples. Travel from Guilin to the Longji Terraced Rice Fields and walk up the hill to take in the view. Spend time in the surrounding village seeing how the people dress and live.
What to Expect
Enjoy time away from the city in a day-long excursion to Longsheng. Located in the mountainous region of northeastern Guilin, Longsheng is home to villages full of minority tribes of people. Most notable among these people are the Zhuang and Yao tribes; spend some time walking through their villages and admire the clothing and customs. Take the opportunity to try some Zhuang oil tea, which is prepared when tea leaves are fried in oil with rice grains, and see the traditional wood and bamboo homes of the Yao people.
Next, you will enjoy a 40-minute walk up the stone-covered paths and steps leading to the top of the Longji Terraced Rice Fields. Built hundreds of years ago, they look like ribbons winding through the countryside. Their appearance has won them the nickname of "Dragon's Backbone," as they resemble the scales and backbone of a dragon.
