Antigua: 2-Day Acatenango Volcano Trek with Meals & Guide
Embark on a journey to the Acatenango Volcano, renowned for its breathtaking view of the constantly erupting Fuego Volcano. This two-day, overnight hiking tour is an encounter with one of nature's most stunning spectacles. The hike requires a good level of fitness, agility, and intermediate hiking skills, as the path is notably steep. Please be aware that the only additional cost is the mandatory park entry fee not included in the package, all tour operators manage it this way. Our competitive advantage lies in our exceptional team of thoroughly vetted professional guides, who ensure group cohesion, boost morale, and consistently receive outstanding reviews. Day 1: Our adventure begins at the center of Antigua at 8:30 AM, where we'll board shuttles to the volcano base, approximately 1 hour away. Upon arrival, you'll meet our local bilingual guide, handle the 100 Q (12 USD) cash only entrance fee, check your equipment, complete a quick registration, and then start the ascent. The hike to the campsite, where we'll spend the night, takes about 5-6 hours, depending on the group's pace. We'll provide lunch during the hike, and there will be three bathroom breaks (please bring your own toilet paper). At camp, enjoy a mesmerizing view of the erupting Fuego Volcano at night, a bonfire, hot chocolate, shot of whisky, and dinner—all included. Accommodations are in a shared dormitory with individual sleeping bags. For added comfort, we suggest bringing a small pillow! Note that the sleeping bags are already at the campsite. Day 2: We'll rise at 4 AM for a 1.5-hour hike to experience a stunning sunrise against the backdrop of the erupting volcano. After taking in the view and capturing photos, we return to the camp for breakfast and then begin our descent to the base. We expect to arrive back in Antigua's center by 1 PM. NOTE: Dress warmly. BRING snacks, water, sunglasses, extra socks, suitable hiking shoes, trekking gear, sunscreen, toiletries, a flashlight, a pillow, a simple raincoat, and a waterproof bag. While you can rent or buy these items before we start hiking, being prepared is more cost-effective. Hiking sticks are available for rent on site. There are no porters. As this is a shared tour, the group will hike together at a consistent pace. Your cooperation is important to ensure everyone enjoys a great experience. DISCLAIMER: On Day 1 at camp, local caretakers of the park offer an independent 3-4 hour optional trek to the erupting Fuego Volcano for 250Q each. Please note that this trek is not included in our itinerary or booking cost, nor is it part of our operations or under our responsibility. We bring this to your attention now because you are likely to hear about it during the activity. We wish to courteously acknowledge the efforts of the park caretakers. However, choosing to participate means you agree to temporarily leave the group and our supervision.
