What people are saying about Guatemala City
The guide was very knowledgeable and knew the history of all the different sites we toured very well. We walked on la Calle 6, notice I said walked on the actual street because it's blocked from car traffic. We walked down this street to the Parque Central and the adjoining Parque Centenario. These parks were full of people, some shoeshine boys, ice-cream vendors and people just out with the family strolling the streets and the parks. From there we crossed over to a very old but beautiful church. We then walked down Calle 8 which led us to the Grand Central Market. In all, I would say that half of the tour was on foot while the other half was taking in site (mostly statues) from the vehicle. Which from our prospective was fine because we were getting a light rain at the time. Incredibly, it stopped about the time we started the walking portion of the tour. My wife and I enjoyed very much.
The tour was great. However, when we arrived we discovered that we had paid about 30% more than everyone else on the same tour who had booked locally. The value was still fine and worth what we paid, it was just frustrating to see that we had been charged that much more than all the others. The guide was great, very informative. The scenery breathtaking! An absolute paradise! Overall, I would go again... I would just wait to buy my tickets for the tour upon arrival.... maybe during a more busy time you need the reservations so you can ensure a spot... but that was not the case on this trip... for what it’s worth.
We had a terrific day and the guide, Herbert, was a great guy and very knowledgable. But the return journey was terrible. I must state this is in no way the tour companies fault. The blame for the complete fiasco at Flores airport must be laid firmly at the feet of the airline. I actually have forgotten their name, but as I watched the situation unfold, it was obvious they had taken WAY TOO MANY bookings for the return flight so were clearly scrambling around to find other aircrafts to get us all back to Guatemala City. Net result was a long delay and an extremely longggg day. 5.30am - 8.30pm.
Come prepared for a moderate hike, but if you’re not up for the challenge there are horses available for you to use to go up and down or just up. We were lucky to see some activity from the volcano. Enjoy it for what it is and the experience. I would recommend to friends.
Excellent I’m from Guatemala and he took us to places I had never been it was great! Very knowledgeable and friendly guide I got to see and learn pretty exiting details of our beautiful colonial town Antigua.
