After a 30 minute drive from Guadalajara, our tour kicks off with a short visit to a family-run ceramic workshop in the center of Tonala. Here, for five generations, artisans have mastered the art of "barro petatillo," one of the most exquisite ceramic techniques in the world. We’ll meet the Bernabe family as they share the artistic process that has earned them international acclaim.
Then, we'll walk through Tonala's historic center for 30 minutes, experiencing the vibrant market, historic church, and lively main square, gaining a glimpse into the authentic lifestyle of a traditional working-class neighborhood.
After a 15 minute drive, our adventure continues in Tlaquepaque! We'll wander for as long as you wish along the enchanting Independencia Street, a pedestrian-only avenue lined with magnificent 19th-century mansions now transformed into stylish boutiques, art galleries, museums, and restaurants.
We'll have the opportunity to admire the works of renowned local artists, including Sergio Bustamente, Agustín Parra, and Rodo Padilla, at their respective art galleries. Find everything from textiles, pottery, and blown glass to leather, artisanal tequila and indigenous handicrafts!
We'll conclude our day with a sumptuous lunch at the breathtaking Casa Luna Restaurant, adorned with Tlaquepaque's finest crafts and hailed as one of Mexico's most beautiful. Alternatively, we can experience the local food scene by having lunch at the bustling market, where we can savor traditional dishes prepared by local vendors.
The drive back to your accommodation will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
