Full description
After meeting at Santa Águeda's beach in El Pajar (Arguinerguin), you will be provided with your safety equipment partnered with some instructions regarding your kayaking. Shortly afterwards, you will start paddling across the beach as your adventure begins while paddling through the rocks in the direction of your first stop at the Los Militares archeological site. There you will have some time to recover a little as your guide provides you with some information about Canarian culture and the last aboriginals that lived there. Getting back to your kayaks, you will continue kayaking past all the little beaches of the south-west coast before reaching Playa de Montaña Arena, one of the last virgin beaches of the island. Here you will have some free time to have a swim, lay on the sand, and rest or play beach tennis, frisbee, or snorkel. You will also be able to recover with a provided picnic consisting of fruit, chocolates, nuts, biscuits, and water.

Overall, we had a nice time. The beaches were lovely, the weather hot and sunny and the water not too cold or too many waves. However, we did feel very left to ourselves when it came to handling our kayak. We were the slowest in the group to finish and were struggling. It’s hard work! About 10 meters from hitting the beach, a wave completely threw us off course and our kayak ended on top of some rocks and shortly after another wave flipped the kayak so we fell out. At that point the rest of the group, including the guide were already on the beach and NO ONE apart from a 10 year old boy came to help us even though we were very clearly struggling. The rocks were all over the place and slippery and the waves kept crashing into us whilst we were trying to get the kayak back on course. Our guide did absolutely nothing even though him and his team were only meters away. Very disappointing ending on a nice trip.

For beginners in my opinion rather unsuitable. Everyone else was a lot quicker than us (my partner and I did this for the first time) so it was very difficult for us to keep up and not lose the group. The guide drove most of the time with the others, who were faster, so that we would have been completely on our own in an emergency. The basic organization of the tour was good and the guide was super nice. He even drove us back to our hotel after the tour.

Having never done kayaking before, I wasn't sure what to expect/how difficult it would be but our instructor Miguel was fantastic! He was encouraging, patient and fun! The whole morning was brilliant and I would definitely go again. One thing to note - it's quite hard work (especially if your technique isn't great!) so prepare for a bit of an upper body workout. But there were plenty of breaks and opportunities to rest, including a nice long snack-stop in a cute sandy (nudist) beach :)
