Şanlıurfa: Harran, Where Mesopotamia meets Anatolia

7. Şanlıurfa: Harran, Where Mesopotamia meets Anatolia

Get to know the city at your own pace with the interactive application you download to your phone. Interact with the city's top attractions and discover interesting facts and legends. Start your journey by downloading the GeziBilen Digital Guide application and continue by following the map on the relevant route. On this route, you can listen to the history of all these works from us. We believe that you will also embrace and enjoy it. Make sure to prepare your vehicle, as there are long distances between the works to prepare our route. Let's start when you are ready. First of all, we would like to tell you a little bit about Harran. Harran, which is mentioned in Assyrian sources as 'Harranum', in Greek authorities as 'Kharran', and Roman sources as 'Carrhae', means "the place where the roads meet". When you look at its geopolitical position, it is located at the intersection of the most important trade routes that come from Northern Mesopotamia and connect to the west and northwest. The fact that the trades flow between Anatolia and Mesopotamia was made over Harran for thousands of years has led to a rich cultural accumulation in this historical city. Archaeological excavations at Höyük(Mound), the first settlement of Harran, discovered traces of uninterrupted life starting from 3000 BC until the 13th century A.C. The most remarkable artefacts found in the excavations belong to the 6th century B.C. Come on; pack up whatever equipment you have to take pictures! Because on our route starting with Cevahir Inn, we will visit the monastery, visit the well, which is the subject of legends, see the world's first university and look at the throne of Nemrut. Moreover, we will stop at the most special landmarks that make Harran is Harran. Anyway, let's not give you too many clues; do not forget to get your best phone chargers.

It was a great day and a great experience, it is highly recommended to do this excursion in this way since our guide was very good and explained to us in detail everything we visited during the day. We also did not have any problems at any time during the trip, the transportation, the food, everything went according to plan and without any major problems. Gobeklitepe is a great destination, the city of Sanliurfa is rich in culture and history, the gastronomy is also excellent. The city bazaar is very nice and have the pistachio drink that is in the city. There is the mosque that commemorates the birth of the prophet Abraham. There is the Urfa castle and the necropolis. The great advantage of going on this tour is that you can see many things in the day you are in Sanliurfa and the times can be adapted to what you want to see most on your tour, with a clear explanation of each place you visit.

What an incredible day exploring Sanlifura, Gobeklitepe and Harran, as well as the surrounding area! Our tour guide, Ali, did an amazing job explaining the area along the way, providing just enough information for our level of knowledge and the time available to us to explore each area. We loved every second of our tour day and we hope to come back soon! We will be requesting a tour from this company and Ali as our guide :)

The guide, the car, the WhatsApp service and, above all, the itinerary were top notch. I asked to add Karahan Tepe which was done without any problems. If it had been open I would have also gone to the Sanliurfa archaeological museum. I loved going to Harran and the beautiful Holy Lake in Urfa. I recommend.

Very well attended. Arrive on time, know the topic, show other areas of importance. Always attentive and taking care of us. Enjoyable and funny. Exceeded my expectations

Great trip to know about the east of Turkey. Well organised and good food. Highly recommended!
