What to Expect
Nestled in the Glacier Bowl of the Chugach Mountains, Alyeska Glacier boasts breathtaking views of the Turnagain Arm and towering alpine peaks. On this 3.5-hour hike you will be dazzled as you walk on a snow-covered glacier during the Alaskan Midnight Sun.
You will ascend via the picturesque Alyeska Tram to a height of 230 feet, before returning to the Hotel Alyeska near sea level. From the upper mountain tram, you will hike a scenic ridgeline surrounded by the 7 glaciers of Girdwood Valley.
The view is outstanding, and you will make frequent stops to take souvenir photographs along the way. Hike the 1-mile round trip with an 800-foot elevation in approximately 2 hours.
This trip is guided by an expert naturalist glacier guide who will explain the ecology of the landscape and teach you the basics of glacier mountain climbing. All equipment is provided; all you need to do is bring your adventurous spirit and your sense of fun.
The round-trip takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, meeting and returning to the Ascending Paths Yurt at Girdwood’s Hotel Alyeska.
